SOFTWARE PUBLISHING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ASAP WEBSHOW FOR NETSCAPE
NAVIGATOR, BRINGING LIVE SLIDE SHOWS TO THE INTERNET

ASAP WEBSHOW DELIVERS REPORTS, PRESENTATIONS AND GRAPHICAL COMMUNICATIONS
FROM ANY WEB PAGE AT EXTRAORDINARY SPEEDS

SAN JOSE, Calif. (January 23, 1996) -- Software Publishing Corporation
(SPC) (Nasdaq:SPCO) today announced ASAP WebShow for Netscape Navigator
2.0 client software, a Plug-In presentation viewer for the World Wide Web.
The product is available for download from
http://www.spco.com/asap/asap.htm. ASAP WebShow enables Netscape Navigator
2.0 users to view, download and print graphically rich reports and
presentations from the Web. Transmission times significantly less than
standard streaming rates are achieved through the use of SPC's Intelligent
Formatting engine. Graphically rich pages with text, gradient colors and
graphical objects such as tables, pyramids and organization charts, are
saved in minuscule file sizes, eliminating the need for compression. For
example, thirty heavily graphical pages occupy as little as 11K,
permitting users with a14.4K modem to download the entire report or
presentation in under seven seconds.

Creating slides is easily achieved using SPC's ASAP 1.0 or ASAP WordPower
1.95 report and presentation software, which were announced in August,
1995 and January, 1996 respectively. With more than 5,500 color and design
choices available at the click of a button, users are able to author and
publish sophisticated, graphically rich presentations for the Web for the
first time. Presentations and reports can be embeded as an icon, as a live
thumbnail or in a window on a Web page. Each slide can be viewed in a
small live area window, enlarged to fill the current Web page or zoomed to
full screen. The material can be viewed either one slide at a time by
user-selection or as a continuously running show. "We're excited about
working with Software Publishing to provide this breakthrough technology,"
said Dave Rothschild, director of product marketing at Netscape. "With
ASAP WebShow, corporate users can quickly and easily create interactive
and self-running, Web-based presentations."

Brad Peppard, vice president of marketing at Software Publishing
Corporation, added, "Software Publishing's ASAP WebShow marks a new level
of speed, power and interactivity on the World Wide Web. ASAP WebShow, one
of several Intelligent Formatting products SPC plans to release, is
another strong step in the process of increasing awareness of SPC's new
technology for new markets."

From classic bullet point presentations to highly graphical reports, ASAP
WebShow opens the door to a variety of new opportunities for companies and
individuals working on the World Wide Web. Intelligent Formatting based
products, such as ASAP WebShow and ASAP WordPower, allow users to
instantly create and view sophisticated and compelling graphical
materials. Interested users can download a fully functional copy of ASAP
1.0 or ASAP WordPower 1.95 beta, for a free 30 day trial, allowing them to
author their own Web presentations at no charge. The first sample
presentations are now available on home pages at Software Publishing's and
PC World's Web servers at http://www.spco.com/asap/asap.htm and
www.pcworld.com/ resources/promos.

Beta version of ASAP WebShow is now available for the Windows 95 and
Windows NT operating systems and can be downloaded for free from SPC's
