NETCOM UNVEILS NETCRUISER FOR MACINTOSH

NetCruiser for Mac offers open Internet solution

Macworld/San Francisco, California, January 9, 1996 --- NETCOM On- Line
Communication Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETC), a leading provider of full
Internet service to individuals and businesses, is showing for the first
time its new NetCruiser Internet software suite for Macintosh at this
week's MACWORLD EXPO. This fully integrated Internet solution for the
Macintosh platform is expected to ship in the first quarter of 1996.

"The Macintosh Internet service market is currently under served, leaving
Macintosh users with limited choices. NETCOM chose to develop for the
Macintosh platform to provide an easy, affordable Internet service option
for the existing 20 million Macintosh user base," said John Zeisler,
senior vice president of marketing for NETCOM. "NetCruiser maintains the
ease-of-use paradigm that the Macintosh platform exemplifies. Savvy
Macintosh users expect software to be easy to install and easy to use.
NetCruiser surpasses their expectations by providing software that
accommodates an open environment to integrate and manage different
Internet tools in one place."

NetCruiser is an integrated package of Internet tools including a World
Wide Web browser, e-mail, Usenet newsgroups, Internet Relay Chat (IRC),
Gopher, FTP and Telnet. In line with NETCOM's open solution philosophy,
NetCruiser can be integrated with other third-party Internet applications
through a unique customizable toolbar that offers one touch launching of
popular software, including Netscape, Eudora, etc.

NetCruiser for Macintosh will have built-in support for GIF and JPEG image
formats, extensive drag and drop support, and multi-threading to let users
work on several Internet tasks simultaneously. The NetCruiser Web browser
supports caching of visited pages for enhanced performance. NetCruiser's
e-mail supports reading and composing off-line, adding new addresses from
incoming mail to an address book and nicknames for individuals and groups.
Its News Reader also supports off-line reading and composing, and searches
newsgroup lists for user-determined topics of interest. NetCruiser FTP and
Gopher support displays text and graphics files from remote sites with
optional drag and drop for file transfers and saving to disk. In addition,
NetCruiser offers universal bookmarks for all interesting Internet sites
found on the Web or through FTP, Gopher and Telnet. NetCruiser also
automatically configures mail, news and IRC services during set-up and
provides for automatic downloads of future upgrades.

NETCOM has already enjoyed success on the Windows platform. Its NetCruiser
for Windows software shipped in July 1994 to critical acclaim by press and
users alike. NetCruiser for Macintosh is being developed independently of,
and therefore, will contain additional features not present in its sister
product, NetCruiser for Windows. With NetCruiser available for Macintosh
users, businesses and individuals can now save time and valuable resources
by using one company for all their Internet needs.

NetCruiser is backed by NETCOM's own nationwide high-speed digital network,
providing local access to over 200 major metropolitan areas at 28.8 kbps.
The service is supported 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

NetCruiser for Macintosh software will be available in the first quarter of
1996 either directly from the Company or through over 5,000 store fronts
and selected mail order houses. Pricing will be announced when the product
ships. NETCOM Internet access is value- priced at $19.95 per month, which
