AT&T computer unit changes its name back to NCR

JANUARY 10, 1996 -- DAYTON, Ohio -- AT&T's computer unit, AT&T Global
Information Solutions, today changed its name back to NCR Corporation in
anticipation of being spun off to AT&T shareholders by January 1997 as an
independent, publicly-traded company.

AT&T announced last September 20 that it would separate into three publicly
traded, global companies: AT&T, which will provide communications
services; a yet-to-be-named systems and technology company; and a business
computing company, which is the new NCR.

AT&T GIS had to change its name since it will no longer be permitted to use
the AT&T name and logotype after the spin-off. NCR, which merged with AT&T
in 1991, was renamed AT&T Global Information Solutions in January 1994.

"The name 'NCR' re-establishes in the marketplace the value,
accomplishments, and customer loyalty of our 112-year history," said NCR
CEO Lars Nyberg. "The name also symbolizes the core capabilities we are
building in world-class, transaction-intensive computing and a
comprehensive set of support and professional services to secure our
future.

"Our capabilities include excellent computer technology, worldwide support
and professional services, and specialized solutions for the retail,
financial, and communications industries -- for example, automated teller
machines and retail point-of-sale terminals," he said. "The solutions,
which are composed of computer hardware, software, and services, turn
transaction data into useful information that allows businesses to better
serve their customers."

NCR also has a business called Systemedia, which manufactures and markets
paper-receipt rolls, business forms, ink ribbons, labels, and other items
for customers in many industries.

New logo

NCR's future is underscored by the dramatic look of the new NCR logo.
Graphically strong, the logo is designed to cut through the clutter of
typical corporate symbols and suggest the qualities of the new NCR --
strength, responsiveness, innovation, dependability, partnership with its
customers, and global reach. The logo will be incorporated on new company
signs, products, and documents in several phases throughout 1996.

Technology agreement with Bell Labs

NCR also announced today that it has entered into a multi-year agreement to
maintain and improve its participation in Bell Labs' world-class research
programs in multiple areas of strategic interest. NCR will have access to
the results of Bell Labs' research programs and be able to derive products
and solutions from them.

"The agreement will make Bell Labs the primary research organization for
NCR," said Nyberg. "Promising basic research from Bell Labs -- one of the
world's most renowned research institutions -- will be brought into our
development organizations for commercialization and integration into our
products and solutions."

Refocused NCR

"The name change is not a magic elixir for solving the problems of this
company," said Nyberg. "Our return to profitability depends on our ability
to deliver in the marketplace."

Since September, the company has taken a series of actions to cut costs and
refocus its resources. NCR renewed its commitment to be a computer systems
and services company with market leadership positions in key
technologies.
