Miller Freeman and DSP Associates Announce Conference Alliance

(San Francisco) January 25, 1996-Miller Freeman, Inc. (MFI) and Dr. Amnon
Aliphas, President of Digital Signal Processing Associates (DSPA), today
announced the establishment of a strategic alliance to produce the
International Conference on Signal Processing Applications & Technology
(ICSPAT), DSP World Expo, and Data Acquisition Conference and Expo. These
three concurrent events have an international reputation as the largest
and most prestigious gathering for managers, engineers and system
integrators developing digital signal processing, analog and mixed-signal
applications.

As part of the alliance, the conference and trade show, previously owned
and managed by DSPA, was sold to Miller Freeman and will now be managed
and produced by MFI. Dr. Aliphas, the founder of the event, will continue
to participate in determining its structure and editorial content as the
conference chair. The alliance provides a management infrastructure that
will support the continued growth of the event.

To accommodate this growth, the 1996 event was recently relocated to the
Boston World Trade Center, October 8-10. This will be the second
consecutive year in Boston for the conference and trade show, which
changes venues each year. "The 1995 event far surpassed our expectations
in the number of conference and show attendees, exhibitors and papers
presented," said Dr. Aliphas. "It became apparent that the space we had
already reserved for the 1996 event would not accommodate our projected
growth. We regret the sudden change in venue, but with the additional
resources of Miller Freeman, DSP World and ICSPAT will need plenty of room
to grow," he explained. The show will start rotating venues again in 1997.

ICSPAT was founded in 1990 in Europe. Exhibitor participation was added in
1991, with the debut of DSP World. The conference and show have
experienced explosive growth in recent years, along with the booming
market for DSPs. "DSP World and ICSPAT have grown so large in the last few
years that a professional show management structure became necessary," Dr.
Aliphas continued. "The conference had several prospective suitors. We
decided to partner with Miller Freeman because they have a demonstrated
commitment to the market and a record of producing high quality
conference-driven events for engineers, designers and managers in this
industry."

The core conference activities at ICSPAT will remain unchanged. In 1995,
640 papers were submitted and reviewed, and 420 were accepted by ICSPAT's
distinguished Technical Review Committee. More than 3,500 professionals
attended the conference and trade show. DSP World and ICSPAT will continue
to be co-sponsored by CMP Publications' Electronic Engineering Times and
OEM Magazine. The trade show featured more than 100 exhibitors in 20,000
square feet of exhibit space.

MFI plans to continue the strong growth pattern and firm commitment to
quality established by DSPA. Ted Bahr, Vice President of MFI's Electronics
Division, noted, "We have always been very impressed with the outstanding
work of Dr. Aliphas, DSP Associates, and the ICSPAT Technical Review
Committee. In the Electronics Division, it is our core philosophy that the
foundation of any strong trade event is a solid, high-level conference.
ICSPAT has captured the attention of the worldwide industry, which flocks
to the event. That's what differentiates this trade show from others. It
is very exciting for us to be involved with Dr. Aliphas."

DSP World now becomes part of MFI's Electronics Division, which publishes
respected magazines such as Embedded Systems Programming, Communications
Systems Design, Printed Circuit Design, and Circuits Assembly. The
Electronics Division also produces the Embedded Systems Conference (East
and West), the Communications Design Engineering Conference, the Printed
Circuit Board Design Conference (East and West) and Surface Mount
International.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Miller Freeman, Inc. is one of the largest
business publishing companies in the United States. It publishes more than
70 magazine titles, including several in the high tech area, and manages
more than 80 trade shows and conference events. A wholly owned subsidiary
of London-based United News & Media plc, MFI is also the North American
arm of United News & Media's global magazine and exhibition business,
which comprises 203 trade shows and 200 business publications in the U.S.,
