WORLD AUTHORITY ON C AND C++ WILL PRESENT IDEAS FOR NEW EMBEDDED INDUSTRY
STANDARD

Noted Author, Developer P.J. Plauger Named As Keynote Speaker for Embedded
Systems Conference East

San Francisco -- January 30, 1996 -- Miller Freeman, Inc. today announced
that P.J. Plauger, worldwide expert on C and C++ programming for embedded
microprocessors, will deliver the keynote address at the Embedded Systems
Conference East at the Hynes Convention Center (Boston, Mass.), April 2-4.
Dr. Plauger, who is active in international standardization efforts for
C++, will address an approach for a standard C++ language for embedded
programming.

Dr. Plauger, the author of several textbooks on computer programming, is
senior editor of THE C/C++ USERS JOURNAL, contributing editor to EMBEDDED
SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING, and technical editor of THE JOURNAL OF C LANGUAGE
TRANSLATION. He has also developed several commercial software products,
and his standard C library has been used by companies such as IBM for
several years.

In his keynote address, Dr. Plauger will discuss how a subset of C++ for
embedded systems could address the industry's need for a language
supporting large embedded control programs.

"Reliable development is essential for a 32-bit microprocessor running half
a megabyte or more of code," according to Dr. Plauger. "Although the size
and complexity of C++ can be a deterrent for efficient use in embedded
applications, we can rely on past experience to select a subset of C++
that includes the most useful features of the language and library."

The keynote presentation, on Tuesday, April 2, complements a three-day
program of tutorials and lectures that reflect the growing complexity
facing engineers working in the embedded marketplace. The conference
program, which includes 68 technical classes, gives attendees the
opportunity to learn from Dr. Plauger and other respected authors,
engineers, and researchers, including: Larry Constantine, Jack Crenshaw,
Jack Ganssle, Jean LaBrosse, Steve Mellor, Larry Mittag, and Dan Saks. In
addition, more than 100 exhibitors will demonstrate products and services
for embedded systems developers and engineers, and attendees can expect to
hear important industry announcements throughout the three-day conference.

The Embedded Systems Conference East is the only east coast educational
forum dedicated to embedded systems products and services. Now in its
fourth year, the conference is produced and sponsored by Miller Freeman,
Inc., the publisher of EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING and one of the
nation's largest producers of conferences and trade exhibitions. Other
shows produced by Miller Freeman include the Communication Design
Engineering Conference, PCB Design Conference, Surface Mount
International: Advanced Electronics Manufacturing Technologies, Software
Development, Autodesk University, MechanCAD, and the 3D Design Conference.
