CIRCUIT BOARD DESIGN CONFERENCE FEATURES EXPANDED PROGRAM, KEYNOTE BY TOP
INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE

New Tutorial Introduces EDIF Version 4.0.0 Standard, Keynote Will Feature
Joe Costello Of Cadence Design Systems, Inc.

San Francisco -- January 30, 1996 -- Conference organizers today announced
that a tutorial on the new EDIF Version 4.0.0 standard has been added to
the technical sessions scheduled for the PCB (Printed Circuit Board)
Design Conference, March 18 - 22, 1996 at the Santa Clara Convention
Center. This addition to the in-depth educational program, along with a
keynote address by Joe Costello of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., promises
to make the fifth annual conference the top West Coast showcase for
technologies used in the design and manufacture of printed circuit boards.

EDIF (Electronic Data Interchange Format) Version 4.0.0, which was created
explicitly to support the PCB design and manufacturing industry, will be
described in detail at a full-day tutorial session scheduled for Monday,
March 18. It is one of ten different tutorials scheduled on the first or
last day of the week-long conference.

Keynote Address

Joe Costello, president and CEO of Cadence, will speak about "Life in the
Design Pressure Cooker" at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19. In addition to
discussing the pressures that PCB and multichip module (MCM) designers
face today, he will present some concrete suggestions for coping with
complex designs and competitive schedules.

"With Joe Costello on the platform, attendees can expect something a little
different than your ordinary keynote address," said Pete Waddell,
editor-in-chief of PRINTED CIRCUIT DESIGN magazine. "Costello is a very
animated and dynamic speaker, and as president and CEO of Cadence, he is
in a position to provide interesting perspectives on the printed circuit
design industry."

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (San Jose, Calif.) is a leading provider of
Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software and services that automate and
enhance the design of integrated circuits (ICs) and electronic systems.
Previously, Mr. Costello was president and CEO of SDA Systems (Santa
Clara, Calif.), and president of Electronic Speech Systems. He was also
manager of research and development for signal processing and speech at
National Semiconductor. Mr. Costello holds advanced degrees in physics
from Yale University and the University of California, Berkeley.

New Tutorial

At the EDIF Version 4.0.0 tutorial, Hilary Kahn, Mike Church and Alan
Williams (researchers involved in producing the new standard) will present
an overview of the new standard and its role in the PCB
design/manufacturing process. The full-day session will also review EDIF
data representations supporting various stages of the PCB design process.
Live demonstrations of EDIF PCB Display and Visualization software will
illustrate the tutorial.

Hilary Kahn is a professor in the department of Computer Science at the
University of Manchester in the U.K., where she leads the CAD research
group. She is the director of the EDIF Technical Centre and chairs the
EDIF Technical Expert Group. Michael Church is a software engineering
consultant at Zuken Redac Group in Tewkesbury, U.K. He is the chairman of
the EDIF PCB/MCM Technical Subcommittee, and has contributed extensively
to the creation of the EDIF PCB/MCM standard. Alan Williams, research
associate at the Department of Computer Science, University of Manchester,
has contributed to the formal specification of EDIF version 4.0.0,
including the domain dependent work on MCMs and technology rules.

With this tutorial, the PCB Design Conference now features ten full-day
seminars, seven half-day sessions and 33 other classes. Additionally, two
new panel discussions have been added to the conference program. The first
takes a look at interoperability issues and the second tackles the tough
issues of PCB testing. Both panels will be open to all attendees including
those registered for the full conference, those registered for exhibits
only, and exhibitors. The conference program also includes the annual EDA
Face-to-Face Roundtable; an informal, open-door session of the IPC
Designers Council; and PCB Benchmark '96, an evaluation of EDA tools. Top
vendors of products and services for the printed circuit board design
industry will exhibit EDA tools, hardware and test equipment, and design
and manufacturing services throughout the conference.

The PCB Design Conference is the annual showcase for emerging technologies
used in the design and manufacture of printed circuit boards. It is
produced by Miller Freeman, Inc., publisher of PRINTED CIRCUIT DESIGN
magazine, and one of the nation's largest producers of conferences and
trade exhibitions. Other shows presented by Miller Freeman include:
Surface Mount International: Advanced Electronics Manufacturing
Technologies, the Embedded System Conferences, Software Development,
Communication Design Engineering Conference, Autodesk University,
MechanCAD, and the 3D Design Conference & Exhibition.
