MILLER FREEMAN INC. ISSUES CALL FOR SPEAKERS, TECHNICAL PAPERS AT SIXTH
SURFACE MOUNT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

San Francisco -- January 11, 1996 -- Miller Freeman, Inc. today announced
the Call for Papers for Surface Mount International: Advanced Electronics
Manufacturing Technologies (SMI). Now in its sixth year, the world's
leading Miller Freeman, Inc. conference and exhibition on the manufacture
of electronic products using surface mount and related technologies will
feature the largest technical program and exhibit floor ever in the show's
history.

This year, authors of the top three technical papers and presentations at
the conference -- scheduled for September 8 - 12, 1996, at the San Jose
Convention Center, San Jose, Calif. -- will receive cash awards of $1,000.
One award will be presented to the technical session speaker who receives
the best ratings from conference attendees. SMI's Technical Program
Committee will select papers for two additional awards, "Best of
Proceedings Paper" and (in recognition of the conference's growing
international importance) "Best International Paper.

"Technical programs and exhibition floor attendance both reached record
levels at the 1995 SMI Conference and Exhibition, and we expect 1996 to
show continued growth," said Martin Barton, SMI Conference Director. "The
Conference Recognition Awards are just one step we are taking to assure
high-quality content and maximum value in the educational experience we
provide."

Technical papers and session proposals covering the following topic areas
are being sought: High Density Packaging, SMT Manufacturing, Materials,
Contract Manufacturing, Components, and Reliability. Papers should
describe significant results from experiments, new techniques or major
trends, and contain specific technical, economic or test data. All papers
should be non-commercial, addressing user-oriented solutions in
electronics manufacturing.

Proposed topics for technical papers should be described in a 300-word
abstract and submitted no later than February 15, 1996. Complete
manuscripts of accepted proposals will be due by July 1, 1996, for
publication in the Conference Proceedings. More information and a
submittal form can be obtained by calling 415-905-8116, or via e-mail:
