MENTOR GRAPHICS ACQUIRES ZEELAN TECHNOLOGY

Expands Library Services Offering for High-Speed Signal Integrity Analysis

WILSONVILLE, ORE. -- JANUARY 15, 1996 -- Mentor Graphics Corporation today
announced it has acquired Zeelan Technology, Inc., the world's leading
supplier of signal integrity model libraries, signal integrity graphical
viewing tools for engineers and golden unit measurement libraries. The
value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.

The acquisition positions Mentor Graphics as a leader in the signal
integrity model library and graphical libraries tools business for design
engineers, as well as provides a close association with semiconductor
manufacturers' golden units. These libraries are critical to performing
signal integrity simulation by engineers that design high-speed digital
systems. The acquisition also broadens the coverage of library services
already provided by Mentor Graphics' Professional Services Division (PSD).
Zeelan will operate as an independent business unit within Mentor
Graphics' Professional Services Division.

Zeelan Technology has been providing model libraries through OEM agreements
with signal integrity simulation providers including Viewlogic (Quad
Design), Cadence Design Systems, Quantic Laboratories, Intergraph and
UniCAD, and intends to fully support existing strategic partnerships and
customers. Zeelan's marketing, engineering and manufacturing will remain
at its existing location in Beaverton, Oregon.

"We, and our customers, have found the Zeelan model library to be the
broadest and best one available for digital signal integrity models,"
stated Larry Rubin, president of Quad Design and vice president of
Viewlogic's High Performance Analysis Group. "We've enjoyed a profitable
OEM relationship with Zeelan Technology and feel their acquisition by
Mentor Graphics will be to everyone's benefit. Since we also have a
long-standing business relationship with Mentor Graphics, we believe the
Zeelan acquisition by Mentor Graphics will strengthen our bonds to both
companies."

Don Szurek, manager of Electronic Design Automation at Network Systems
Corporation (NSC), a leading manufacturer of high-speed security- based
routers, which has been using models from Zeelan Technology for about 18
months said, "It is impossible to effectively analyze circuits without
accurate models. While we were able to generate models for the simpler
parts ourselves, generating the more complex models significantly delays
the product availability while greatly increasing the development cost.
Even with the smaller parts, having a verified model from Zeelan gave the
designers more confidence in the results. In fact, Network Systems'
Security Router went through all of our in-house verification, and has
been shipping for 10 months, with no errors due to analog effects found on
either the prototype or production boards. We are continuing to use Zeelan
models to analyze all of our new products."

"Zeelan is the only company providing a model library that extracts
measurement-based information to create models that lead to the most
realistic results possible," said Jack Woida, director of Mentor Graphics'
Library Products Group, Professional Services Division.

Dr. Russell F. Henke, vice president and general manager of Mentor
Graphics' Professional Services Division, added, "We are delighted to have
Zeelan join the fold; Zeelan represents another key piece of our
long-range strategy to offer customers the most comprehensive library
management software and parts data generation capabilities available
anywhere. By integrating existing Mentor Graphics library software with
products from Zeelan, Axiom, Aspect Development, and others, with the
implementation experience and expertise of our worldwide Professional
Services consulting organization, customers enjoy complete coverage for
their enterprise library needs from design capture, simulation, layout,
manufacturing and procurement."

George Opsahl, vice president of marketing for Zeelan Technology, added,
"We have shared a successful OpenDoor (sm) partnership with Mentor
Graphics and are very pleased with the relationship that has developed
between the two companies. Zeelan will continue developing
measurement-based MasterModel Libraries and display tools for engineers as
well as MasterGolden Unit measurements for semiconductor manufacturers."

Zeelan Technology has more than 8,700 measurement-based models seamlessly
incorporated into the engineer's simulator and workstation of choice. Key
to signal integrity simulations are realistic models that represent the
high-frequency analog behavior of integrated circuits. Zeelan Technology's
libraries support microprocessor, pre-silicon measurement- based ASICs,
FPGAs, memories, PLDs, microprocessor clock drivers, backplane
transceivers and digital logic. Each model is measurement- based and
specific to the semiconductor manufacturer and the manufacturer's complete
part number including family, function, version, speed, package and pin.

Zeelan Technology's model libraries support more than 40 semiconductor
manufacturers. Examples of high-performance parts in the model libraries
range from Intel Pentium processors, TI DSP processors,
XILINX/Altera/Actel/Atmel FPGAs, TI ASICs, AMD /Lattice/TI PLDs to DRAMs
from Micron and Samsung, as well as support for custom models for parts
not currently in a MasterModel Library.

ZEELAN TECHNOLOGY, INC.

Zeelan Technology is the industry standard for providing realistic digital
signal integrity model libraries, graphical tools for design engineers and
measurement based information for semiconductor manufacturers. Zeelan
creates models, displays graphical information and acquires information
for golden units from measurements of actual parts for the most realistic
information for design engineers. Zeelan Technology is located at 10550
