LOTUS ANNOUNCES ENHANCED INTEGRATION BETWEEN LOTUS NOTES AND IBM MQSERIES

PROVIDES TIGHTER INTEGRATION WITH IBM'S MQSERIES THROUGH LOTUSSCRIPT 3.0

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 22, 1996 -- Lotus Development Corp. today announced an
enhanced link between Lotus Notes and IBM's MQSeries software that enables
Notes customers to build business applications that fully leverage
existing corporate business systems. Through IBM's MQSeries link for Lotus
Notes, customers can access and manipulate traditional transaction-based
systems, integrating front-end business processes, such as a purchase
requisition review, with the actual purchase order transaction on the
back-end system.

In the previous version of MQSeries link for Lotus Notes, customers could
access transactional data and leverage it within the Notes environment.
The enhanced MQSeries link for Lotus Notes, which includes a LotusScript
Extension (LSX), allows data to be exchanged bidirectionally between Notes
and transaction systems and databases. It also provides more sophisticated
access at the programming logic level, giving Notes developers greater
control and flexibility.

The enhanced integration with IBM's MQSeries, coupled with the Notes
Release 4 replication and application development enhancements, including
LotusScript 3.0, provides the opportunity for customers to develop
high-impact solutions across and beyond the enterprise.

"Today's announcement provides IT managers, Notes application developers
and our Lotus Business Partners with expanded options in leveraging Notes
and traditional transaction systems to create tightly integrated, business
process solutions," said Michael D. Zisman, Lotus executive vice president
and CEO. "Along with the enhancements, Lotus also will provide value-added
services to assist customers in utilizing these links."

"This accelerates and broadens the opportunity for customers and business
partners to strategically invest in Notes," said John M. Thompson, senior
vice president and Software Group executive, IBM. "We are able to unleash
the power of the information stored in enterprise systems, and deliver it
to the end-user with all of the ease-of-use qualities of Notes. By making
it simple to process enterprise data from Notes, we are providing
customers with a powerful solution that greatly increases business
productivity."

"Linking Notes to MQSeries has provided us with a quick and easy solution
to enable our customers to have access to important hospital information,"
said Richard J. Witowski, director, information systems at Niagara Falls
Memorial Medical Center, N.Y. "We rely on Notes for e-mail and sharing
patient information. The Enterprise Transcription application we developed
using Notes and MQSeries has improved our ability to respond to our
customer needs, and reduce labor-intensive processes."

Business Partners also will realize significant new business opportunities,
including providing custom links to their own transaction-based products,
consulting, application design and implementation, and educational
offerings.

EXTENDED TRANSACTION MODEL COMPETENCY CENTER

To ensure that companies can fully leverage the enhanced integration of
Notes and MQSeries, Lotus is opening the Lotus Extended Transaction Model
(ETM) Competency Center. Based at Lotus Development Corp. in Cambridge,
Mass., and supported by Lotus and IBM Field Sales, the ETM Competency
Center will provide consulting, application design and review assistance,
and methodology development for enterprise customers who want to
accelerate their adoption of extended transaction systems.
