KL Group Releases Powerful Collection of Widgets and Utilities

XRT/gear Newest Addition to XRT Family of GUI Components

(Toronto, Ont. -- January 23, 1996)

KL Group Inc., the leading supplier of Graphical User Interface (GUI)
components for X/Motif developers, announced today the release of
XRT/gear, the newest addition to the XRT family of widgets.

XRT/gear is a collection of six widgets and three utilities that will
enable Motif developers to build improved GUIs easily, quickly and
inexpensively. XRT/gear will provide Motif developers with the ability to
use a wide variety of features previously unavailable using the standard
Motif toolkit.

"There are some very practical widgets within XRT/gear that our developers
find extremely useful," said Ian Kent, an XRT/gear beta-user and
Development Team Leader with Bell-Northern Research. "XRT widgets are
consistent with one of our key development principles, reusability. We
stick to creating elements specific to the problems that our products are
created to solve, while purchasing reusable general purpose components
from KL Group. Our thinking is `why build when you can buy at a fraction
of the cost' " he concluded.

Paul Sahota, product manager for XRT/gear, said, "our design mandate was to
create a product that would make it easier for developers to build
applications that are both end-user friendly and intuitive. The Tab
Manager widget, for example, lets developers organize data in a manner
that is more accessible to the end user. Our Icon Collection not only adds
visual appeal, it aids interface design that is ultimately more intuitive
to the end user. The Aligner and Toolbar widgets can be used together to
improve the application for end users, but they also save developers a
tremendous amount of time."

XRT/gear is feature-packed with functionality never before available to
Motif developers. It includes:

TAB MANAGER

Build tabbed-folder interfaces, or provide a customized look and
feel. Combine text and images on tabs, and even build nested tab
   interfaces.

TOOLBAR

Add colorful icons to a toolbar to expose the functionality of your
application with a series of buttons that are instantly visible
   and accessible.

ALIGNER

Create columns of label-widget pairs. Easier than Motif's RowColumn
widget, Aligner is ideal for building user-friendly forms.

ENHANCED TOGGLE

Motif developers finally have the ability to create multi-state
toggles. Pixmaps stipple automatically to denote an insensitive
   state.

ENHANCED LABEL

Combine pixmaps with text labels, or use it wherever you need
   borders, rotation or clip masks.

ENHANCED PUSHBUTTON

Display pixmaps and text concurrently on a pushbutton for the first
   time in Motif.

WIDGET TIPS

Add temporary pop-up spot help to any Motif widget.

WIDGET SNAPSHOT

Print any widget, dialog or shell in PostScript.

ICON COLLECTION

Use the built-in Icon Browser to choose from over 3,000 PD icons.

A single XRT/gear development licence is available for a special
introductory price of $1,495 US. Prices outside North America are slightly
higher. Network-site licences and corporate-wide licences are also
available. There are never any run-time fees or royalties for distributing
end-user applications built with any XRT products.
