Intergraph Expands into Broadcast, Entertainment Markets with New Digital
Media Division, First Product to be New StudioZ Workstation

HUNTSVILLE, AL, JAN. 16, 1996 -- Intergraph Computer Systems (ICS) today
announced that it is entering the high-growth markets of Broadcast and
Entertainment with a new Digital Media division.

"Intergraph Computer Systems' TDZ 3D graphics Workstation launched in Nov.
1995 for 3D graphics applications gave us a strong entry into the high-end
animation market. This new Digital Media division will focus on high
performance and affordable Windows NT-based desktop solutions for the
Broadcast and Entertainment markets. These solutions were previously
available only on expensive RISC/UNIX workstations," said Wade Patterson,
Executive Vice President of Intergraph Computer Systems.

Jeff Edson, vice president of the new Digital Media Division, will be
responsible for product development, marketing, and new market
development. "Also part of the Digital Media organization is Intergraph's
Digital Media Studio, a leading-edge video production house that will use
Digital Media products as it transitions from analog to digital video
solutions," said Edson. "Having a Digital Media user as part of the
division will give us firsthand insight and more...

experience into the challenges faced by video and movie producers and other
professionals in this dynamic marketplace."

StudioZ, a new Windows NT and Pentium Pro-based workstation for high- end
component serial digital video (known as D1) generation, will be announced
in March '96 and featured in April at the National Association of
Broadcasters in Las Vegas. StudioZ is the first new product to be
announced by the Digital Media division.

FIRST SERIAL DIGITAL VIDEO ON WINDOWS NT

Perhaps the most significant contribution of StudioZ to the creative video
professional will be the availability of D1 on the Windows NT platform.
Component serial digital video was previously available only on expensive,
proprietary, and complicated RISC/UNIX workstations. D1 digitizes and
manipulates the input sources used for the video with online quality and
streams them directly from the hard disk to video in real time. Unlike
analog, which degrades in quality from one video generation to the next,
serial digital video produces high-quality video with no generational loss
of video integrity. With StudioZ's component D1 capability, video
professionals can capture, edit, assemble, and play back true
broadcast-quality video.

COMPLETE DESKTOP VIDEO SOLUTION

"The announcement of StudioZ will be good news for the broadcast and
entertainment markets because it is a single high-performance, affordable
workstation for video authoring, editing, assembly, and playback. In the
past, each of these stages required a separate expensive and proprietary
workstation. StudioZ will be one affordable, open system that performs all
of the steps required in video content creation, including component
serial digital video pre-production, production, and post-production.
Plus, D1 capability means that the highest true broadcast-quality media is
generated with StudioZ," said Patterson. "The D1 capabilities of StudioZ
will complement Intergraph's existing Video Engine desktop workstation for
edit, capture, and playback of analog video under the newly formed Digital
Media organization.

StudioZ builds on Intergraph's recently announced TDZ, a high-end
workstation for 3D animation, simulation, multimedia and computer- aided
design (CAD). StudioZ will add video more...

edit, assembly, and broadcast to the 3D design, rendering, and animation
capabilities of the TDZ. On a single desktop, a StudioZ user will be able
to script and storyboard narration and organization; create 3D designs and
animations and merge them with live video; add sound and music; edit and
assemble the various media; and convert the finished product to a form
ready for broadcast -- all in real time.

"Until now, video producers required multiple systems to accomplish all the
tasks they needed to perform, which made video production an extremely
expensive and time-consuming process," said Edson. "In a traditional video
production scenario, pre-production tasks like script-writing and
storyboards were accomplished on a PC, while animation graphics creation
required an expensive and proprietary RISC/UNIX machine. In addition, an
expensive online editing suite was often essential for assembly, editing,
and final video production."

"StudioZ will bring these steps together in one affordable system,"
continued Edson. "It will run the familiar Microsoft office tools
available under Windows NT, which are ideal for pre-production activities
like script-writing. StudioZ incorporates Intergraph's GLZ graphics
accelerators, which employ the industry's most advanced technology for
geometry acceleration, rendering, and texture processing in hardware.
These features enable users to create superior-quality 3D graphics and
animations. Hardware support for these sophisticated capabilities offloads
the CPU from all graphics processing tasks, achieving phenomenal rendering
speeds. GLZ hardware graphics acceleration, along with the amazing speed
of the Pentium Pro processor, means that StudioZ achieves video creation
speeds that were previously attainable only by the most expensive
RISC/UNIX workstations.

Finally, StudioZ's new D1 capability will support post-production editing
and assembly of broadcast-quality video -- that is, true broadcast-quality
video viewed on national television and in theatre animations. StudioZ's
price/performance ratio and feature set will surpass -- by a wide margin
-- RISC/UNIX systems that have held the market share in the broadcast
video and entertainment arenas."

"With a new Digital Media division focused on high-end digital video
products and solutions, as well as a complete desktop video workstation
for broadcast-quality video creation, more...

edit, assembly, and playback, Intergraph is well positioned to secure a
leadership role in the Broadcast and Entertainment markets," said
Patterson.

ANNOUNCEMENT AND AVAILABILITY DATES

StudioZ will be announced in early March and will be publicly demonstrated
at the National Association of Broadcasters industry trade show in April
in Las Vegas. StudioZ will be deliverable at this time.
