New Version of IBM AntiVirus Software Supports Windows 95 and Other
Operating Systems

STERLING FOREST, N.Y., January 23, 1996 -- With the addition of support for
Windows 95, IBM AntiVirus has expanded its coverage for multiple operating
systems in one box. This advanced anti-virus solution, part of IBM's
SecureWay* family, enables users to protect their computing environment
across all supported platforms.

The new Version 2.4, released today, includes a Desktop Edition and an
Enterprise Edition. The new Desktop Edition protects personal computer
users running OS/2* Warp, DOS, Windows** and Windows 95, while the new
Enterprise Edition provides IBM AntiVirus protection for all platforms
supported in the Desktop Edition, plus Novell NetWare** and Windows NT
clients and servers.Version 2.4 also detects an increased number of
viruses, including the Concept virus and three other macro viruses that
infect Word documents.

As more and more users access the Internet and other global networks, the
possibility of acquiring a computer virus is greater, increasing the need
to have an anti-virus solution. Part of an integrated suite of anti-virus
products and services, IBM AntiVirus software now protects personal
computer users by detecting and removing more than 6,800 strains of
computer viruses, a 15% increase over viruses detected in the previous
version.

IBM AntiVirus Editions

The single-user Desktop Edition, designed for home and small businesses,
will continue to carry a suggested retail price of $49.00.

The Enterprise Edition is ideal for larger businesses and client/server
environments. Businesses have a wide range of options for purchasing the
Enterprise Edition, which includes all the software needed to implement a
thorough and effective anti-virus solution throughout an enterprise. It
also offers complementary products to distribute and update anti-virus
software and administer anti-virus policy across the enterprise.

Advanced Anti-Virus Technology

The advanced anti-virus technology is developed and continually updated at
IBM's High Integrity Computing Laboratory at the Thomas J. Watson Research
Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y.

IBM AntiVirus scans memory, hard disks, floppy drives and network servers
for the thousands of viruses, including polymorphic viruses that change to
avoid detection, and viruses previously considered impossible to detect.
For defending against previously unknown viruses, IBM AntiVirus has
heuristics that attempt to detect viruses by watching for code or behavior
that are characteristic of viruses; and uses algorithms to reliably
disinfect programs infected with unknown viruses.

On average, there are three to five new viruses discovered every day. At
IBM Research, researchers track virus incidents throughout the world and
update IBM AntiVirus continuously with new disinfection measures.

IBM, the largest computer company in the world, offers hardware, software,
consulting and services to help customers secure their information
technology. Whether addressing an individual need or creating a total
enterprise solution, IBM SecureWay offerings provide the expertise
required to plan, design, implement and operate secure solutions for
businesses. Additional information on these offerings can be found through
