IBM Announces SecureWay Line of Security Products and Services; New
Security Toolkit

RSA DATA SECURITY CONFERENCE, San Francisco, CA, January 17, 1996 . . IBM
today announced its SecureWay* line of security products, services and
consulting for the Internet and the enterprise. SecureWay provides a
common brand for IBM's broad portfolio of security offerings led by the
newly formed IBM Internet division. SecureWay offerings from IBM include:

  * access controls to manage entry to sensitive information
  * cryptographic hardware and software across the IBM family
    of servers
  * smart cards and readers
  * Internet Connection secure browsers and servers and
    secured network
  * gateway firewalls to protect your enterprise's connection
    to the Internet
  * single log-on administrators to simplify security
    processes
  * anti-virus software
  * distributed security management
  * directory and security services for LAN servers.

Security features are also integrated into IBM operating systems, network
and database programs and Lotus Notes* which has embedded public key
cryptography. Offerings for secure payment systems for electronic commerce
and Cryptolopes* for secure content distribution are currently under
development.

A full range of security consulting and services is also available as part
of the SecureWay line. They include a worldwide I/T Security consulting
practice Emergency Response Service; 'ethical hacking' backed by IBM
Research's Global Security Analysis Lab; anti-virus; security
implementation and outsourcing services; and turnkey firewall installation
services.

"With IBM SecureWay we are pulling together the entire breadth of IBM
security solutions and making it very clear to customers that IBM is the
right choice for their security needs. We are reinforcing our commitment
to security with today's announcement of the SecureWay brand."

IBM also plans to introduce a set of security tools in the first quarter to
enhance AS/400 systems, which will allow security administrators to
perform numerous security audits of their AS/400. Planned functions
include:

  * reports on invalid password attempts and unauthorized
    access attempts
  * reports on the state of security as it relates to the
    communication
    configuration
  * lists that indicate which user profiles exist on AS/400
    and have default passwords
  * reports listing objects on AS/400 that are available to
    all users on the system
  * automatic auditing activation
  * automatic enabling and disabling of user profiles during
    specific time periods or on a specific date.

The S/390 line of enterprise servers has also recently announced
enhancements to its established security features. The S/390 Server
Operating System (OS/390), which ships March, 1996, integrates RACF 2.2
(for access control) and the DCE Security Server (for authentication),
into a suite of over 30 server products. These new enhancements include
extended login and password management, security auditing capability,
delegation, and generic security services API (GSSAPI). The announcement
also included Open Edition DCE User Data Privacy support for the
commercial data masking facility (CDMF) algorithm for exportable user data
encryption.
