100VG-AnyLAN Momentum Continues

Customer Demand for Adapter Cards and Hub Ports Shipped Exceeds 200,000

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA. JANUARY 22, 1996 -- Hewlett-Packard Company, a
leader in networked systems for workgroups, today announced it has shipped
more than 220,000 adapter cards and 210,000 hub ports for its 100VG-AnyLAN
high-speed network since HP began shipping in late 1994.

This high level of sales demonstrates continued momentum for 100VG growth
as industry analysts also have independently reported.

"As customers install real-world, high-speed networks, vendors are expected
to see continued demand for 100VG products through the year 2000," said
Trudy Barker, director/principal analyst, Data Networking
Telecommunications Industry Service. "100VG is designed for emerging
workgroup applications such as desktop video conferencing, color network
printing, collaborative computing and multimedia; other large,
data-intensive workgroup applications; and for improving the performance
of existing applications."

HP's second-half numbers are as follows:

                         Second Half Total Installed
     HP Shipments 1995 Total Base
     -------------------------------------------------------
     100VG Hub Ports 108,800 209,540
     10/100 Adapter Cards 117,630 223,200

"The second half of 1995's fiscal year shows HP 100VG hub sales up 69
percent and the adapter-card sales up 34 percent from the first half of
the year, and we expect strong growth to continue," said Gary McAnally,
general manager of HP's Roseville (Calif.) Network Division. "100VG's
technological superiority in multimedia and time-sensitive applications
assures us that customer demand will continue. For example, Lotus
Development Corporation chose 100VG for its network at Lotusphere `96, in
Orlando this month, because 100VG is the network technology that can best
showcase Lotus' Notes applications."

The 100VG-AnyLAN IEEE approved standard (802.12) was developed
cooperatively by AT&T, HP and IBM. The first product began shipping in
August 1994.

HP's Roseville (Calif.) Networks Division and HP's Network Server Division
