Gateway 2000 achieves high ranking from Gartner Group

Report states Gateway to be "serious contender" in U.S. commercial desktop
business

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., JANUARY 15, 1996 ( Gateway 2000, Inc. (Nasdaq:
GATE) has been recognized by the Gartner Group as a consolidated Tier
1/Tier 2 personal computer vendor.

Citing bolstered infrastructure, dedicated corporate accounts programs and
an efficient business model, the Stamford, Connecticut-based technology
advisory firm believes Gateway will be a "serious contender" in the United
States business computing market.

"This report confirms our long-standing commitment to our corporate
customers," said Ted Waitt, Gateway 2000 chairman and CEO. "By focusing
resources on our major accounts program, Gateway provides everything the
business community needs in terms of computing solutions: innovative
product engineering, reliable quality testing and outstanding customer
support."

The Gateway Major Accounts program employs more than 400 sales, technical
support and customer service personnel who deal solely with Fortune 1000,
government and educational customers.

"We have instituted a number of changes that have directly benefited our
corporate clients," said Bill Shea, Gateway's vice president of major
accounts. "We see the results of these efforts every day because we are
constantly in direct contact with our customers. The Gartner Group report
recognizes Gateway as a consolidated Tier 1/Tier 2 vendor and acknowledges
our improvements to all of corporate America."

As part of the company's continuing push into the major accounts market,
Gateway recently unveiled plans for a workstation aimed primarily at the
corporate market. The workstation, based on the Intel" 200MHz Pentium" Pro
microprocessor, is configured with Microsoft" Windows" NT operating
system.
