DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA DELIVERS ENHANCED DRIVERS FOR JAVELIN VIDEO 3000 SERIES

New Javelin Video Driver 1.0.5 Features Faster Acceleration at up to Eight
Times the Performance Over Version 1.0.2

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Jan. 9, 1996 -- Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: DIMD), a leading designer and marketer of award-winning
visualization and multimedia connectivity subsystems for the Power
Macintosh and personal computer markets, today announced at MacWorld, San
Francisco, a new driver, version 1.0.5, for its Javelin Video 3000 series
multimedia accelerator for the PCI Power Macintosh. The release of
Javelin's 1.0.5 drivers delivers powerful graphics and video acceleration
for PCI-based Power Macintosh systems (7200, 7500, 8500 and 9500) or MAC
OS compatible systems. Drivers can be obtained through Diamond's Internet
Web site, FTP site, and America Online.

Revision 1.0.5 improves "Regions" acceleration by eight times over version
1.0.2 which can be seen by scrolling an Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Word
document. Diamond has also added a video CODEC (compression/decompression)
that provides YUV to RGB color conversion and scaling for QuickTime 2.1
(or later).

"With the 1.0.5 drivers, users can re-size component video and access
smoother video playback to achieve the performance required for
high-quality, productive imaging in video applications" said John Chan,
product marketing manager for Diamond's Macintosh products. "The Javelin
Video 3000 now offers performance that is 150 percent faster than the
graphics accelerator that currently ships with Apple's Power Macintosh
9500 series."

The Javelin Video 3000 series includes two high-performance models, the
3240XL and the 3400XL. The Javelin Video 3240XL has an estimated retail
price (ERP) of $399, provides 2MB of VRAM (upgradable to 4MB) and supports
up to 16.7 million colors and resolutions as high as 1600x1200. The
Javelin Video 3400 contains 4MB of VRAM and is $569 (ERP). Both models
come bundled in U.S. retail versions with Kai's Power Tools (KPT)
Convolver SE 1.0 and Color It LE 3.0. Convolver's plug-in filters provide
color imaging tools that can be used in Photoshop or Color It. Color It
provides basic Photoshop-like editing to clean- up and modify digital
images.

64-Bit Graphics Acceleration

Based on the S3 Vision968 graphics controller, the Javelin Video 3000
series offers considerable performance improvements over the graphics
currently offered on PCI-based Power Macintosh systems. The
Diamond-engineered QuickDraw graphics drivers take full advantage of the
hardware acceleration features found in the Vision968 controller and
improves performance in most graphics and imaging applications. The high
resolutions and high color depths supported by the Javelin Video 3000
series are ideally suited for large screen monitors and graphics-intensive
desktop publishing, multimedia authoring and scientific applications
commonly used on Macintosh platforms. A high frequency 220MHz DAC provides
ergonomic, flicker-free refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Both Javelin models
are DDC-2 compliant and support both Macintosh and PC monitors.

Smooth Video Scaling and Interpolation

The Javelin Video 3000 series scales component video using X and Y
interpolation and color space conversion providing smooth, realistic video
images at up to 30 frames per second. Component Video CODECformat is
supported in QuickTime.
