CA-UNICENTER/TNG SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS' KIT NOW AVAILABLE

CREATES ENORMOUS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THIRD-PARTIES TO DELIVER NEW INTEGRATED
ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

MANAGES TRADITIONAL CLIENT/SERVER, INTRANET AND INTERNET ENVIRONMENTS
THROUGH UNIQUE 3D USER INTERFACE

ISLANDIA, N.Y., January 23, 1996--Creating a wealth of market opportunities
for third-party developers, Computer Associates today announced
availability of a software developers' kit (SDK) for CA-Unicenter/TNG, the
first solution for end-to-end management of information technology
resources from a business process perspective.

Fully object-oriented, CA-Unicenter/TNG (The Next Generation) establishes a
revolutionary link between an organization's information technology
resources and its business policies. Through its unique real-world
interface, organizations can display and control their entire enterprise
information technology infrastructure--including applications, databases,
systems and networks.

By utilizing the CA-Unicenter/TNG SDK, third-party developers can create a
new class of solutions to manage the entire enterprise computing
environment. The resulting solutions utilize a real-world interface --
using 3D animation and virtual reality technology -- to manage traditional
client/server, Intranet and Internet environments. This SDK is currently
available on Windows NT Workstations and is optimized for Intel's Pentium
Pro processor.

"Third-party developers are creating an entire industry around CA-
Unicenter," said CA President and COO Sanjay Kumar. "The SDK creates
enormous opportunities for third-parties to expand their market
penetration, and for clients to extend their applications around
CA-Unicenter. For the first time, developers can bring highly-scaleable,
multi- platform management solutions to market without the risks and costs
of building a management infrastructure."

Today's announcement drew widespread support from more than a dozen
prominent industry leaders, including Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft,
Netscape, and Sun (see accompanying release).

The CA-Unicenter/TNG SDK utilizes a rich set of tools, APIs and services,
combined with a scaleable manager/agent architecture that provides a level
of integration unsurpassed in the industry. It is the only SDK to provide
such complete integration facilities as a seamless 3D user interface, a
common object repository, a highly-scaleable manager/agent paradigm, and
robust management functions.

Third-party management applications can share policies, request services
and provide services to other management functions that utilize the
CA-Unicenter/TNG architecture. Agents built with the SDK can be deployed
across networks. Applications also can be ported quickly to
CA-Unicenter-supported platforms, including all major versions of Unix,
Windows NT and AS/400.

Existing applications can be integrated with CA-Unicenter/TNG without being
rewritten. Because CA-Unicenter/TNG is a layered architecture, developers
can initially integrate solutions at one level and increase the
integration over time.

Three sets of APIs allow for easy integration with CA-Unicenter/TNG:

* The CA-WorldView API helps organizations integrate their applications
with CA-Unicenter/TNG's real-world interface, which runs on Windows NT
based on an object repository. This technology makes it extremely easy and
intuitive to navigate through an organization's web of IT assets--from
global networks, to individual computers, to the hardware within those
computers, even to the abstract objects such as database processes and
user IDs. The API supports the storage, manipulation and retrieval of
managed objects in the object repository. The repository drives the
business process views of CA-Unicenter/TNG and supports complete
customization of the user interface.

* The Enterprise Management API enables cross-application integration and
makes management policies defined by users available to third parties. All
management applications can seamlessly communicate with one another, with
underlying agent layers, and with the CA-WorldView API and repository.

* The Agent Factory API allows third parties to easily construct and deploy
multi-platform, scaleable manager/agent applications. Any agent can manage
key enterprise network, system, database or application resources using
the API. Common shared agent services can be distributed across agents and
their target resource, providing advanced correlation and automation
without additional development effort. Third-party solutions can process
information derived from CA-Unicenter/TNG agents.

"The CA-Unicenter/TNG SDK is a plus for CA and the industry," said Paul
Mason, director of systems management service, International Data Corp.,
Framingham, Mass. "With the SDK, third-parties can finally develop
software products that consistently leverage enterprise policy management
as well as CA's 3D user interface. CA is unique in the degree to which it
has made available a common platform of base services for end users to
manage their enterprise."
