BSO/TASKING Announces Integrated Software Toolset For Motorola DSP56000
Family of Digital Signal Processors

High Code Optimization and On-Chip Debugging OnCE Support For Data/Speed
Intensive Applications

DEDHAM, Mass. (January 10, 1996)-BSO/TASKING is offering a new integrated
software development toolset for Motorola's high-performance 16- and
24-bit DSP's, supporting all variants of the DSP56000 family including the
DSP5600x, DSP561xx, and DSP56300 cores.

The BSO/TASKING DSP56000 toolset offers a cost-effective solution for
programming Motorola's high-precision family of DSP's, providing an
integrated development environment including powerful ANSI C and C++
compilers, a Motorola-compliant assembler with pipeline optimization, and
BSO/TASKING's CrossView source level debugger and EDE Embedded Development
Environment for push button control of development processes.

BSO/TASKING's DSP Product Marketing Manager Frank van den Berg explains,
"The BSO/TASKING compiler package for the DSP5600x, DSP561xx and DSP563xx
applies all common optimization techniques to create highly efficient
code. In addition, a number of Motorola DSP specific optimizations have
been developed to increase the performance further. These techniques
greatly boost the overall code density and performance."

Paul Bundschub, strategic marketing manager, Motorola Digital Signal
Processing Division, commented, "We are very pleased with the new
BSO/TASKING integrated toolset for Motorola's family of Digital Signal
Processors. Their optimizing compiler will provide DSP56000 family users
new opportunities to easily increase the performance of their
applications."

The BSO/TASKING DSP56000 compiler package is designed specifically for
maximizing the instruction set of the DSP56000 architecture without
violating the ANSI-C standard. The C compiler generates highly efficient
code by supporting a number of language extensions and inline functions,
and by a range of optimization techniques, three of which are of
particular importance: common subexpresison elimination, loop recognition,
and variable usage analysis and register allocation. The compiler also
supports three memory models for the DSP5600x-reentrant, static and mixed
reentrant/static-to help ensure code efficiency.

The macro assembler also performs optimization and is compatible with
Motorola's DSP Macro Assembly Language standard. The assembler supports
numerous controls and pseudo instructions such as section handling to save
memory. Extensive optimization techniques which ensure optimal instruction
sequences include instruction parallelizing and NOP insertion and delay
slot filling.

BSO/TASKING's CrossView Windows debugger is capable of debugging C and
Assembly level source programs using the DSP56000's On-Chip emulation
(OnCE) debug facilities through the Motorola ADS board. CrossView provides
users with different views of the application as it is running, including
stack, registers and simulated I/O, and uses the debug information from
the compiler and assembler.

Pricing for individual tools starts at $1,500.00. The C compiler, Macro
Assembler and CrossView debugger for the DSP5600x family will be available
in January, 1996. The C++ compiler and tools supporting the 561xx and
563xx families are scheduled for release in 1996. The BSO/TASKING DSP56000
toolset will be available on PC/DOS, SUN SPARC, HP9000/700 and DEC ALPHA.

On the PC platform, the toolset will be integrated with the EDE for
seamless connection to the language editor, providing a consistent and
powerful interface to all the tools required for building and debugging a
DSP56000 application.

BSO/TASKING is a leading developer and supplier of integrated software
development tools for the embedded systems market, supporting a wide range
of CISC, RISC and DSP semiconductor technologies. Headquartered in Dedham,
Massachusetts, BSO/TASKING has offices worldwide, located in the
Netherlands, London, Milan, Stuttgart, and Tokyo.
