AUTODESK OFFERS MULTIMEDIA DESIGN SOFTWARE SUBSCRIPTIONS TO EDUCATION

Program Helps Schools Develop Leading Edge Design Curriculums

SAN RAFAEL, California, January 22, 1996 -- Releasing the second
subscription option under its Autodesk Preferred Education Partner
Program, Autodesk today announced the availability of its Multimedia
collection of software to U. S. colleges, universities and large school
districts at unprecedented volume rates. The Autodesk Preferred Education
Partner Program's Multimedia subscription, like the Design and Drafting
subscription announced last fall, is a campus-wide membership program that
lets schools purchase Autodesk software at economical volume rates.

As the world's largest provider of PC-based multimedia animation tools,
Autodesk is committed to fostering the use of these tools in the design
learning process. Thousands of architecture and engineering students and a
growing number of art, computer graphics, communication and film students
use Autodesk 3D Studio and other multimedia software as a part of their
design education. According to The Roncarelli Report, content for seventy
percent of computer games is created with Autodesk products. Also, a
number of U. S. feature films have included computer-generated images
designed using Autodesk multimedia software.

As with the Design and Drafting subscription, the Multimedia software suite
will be of interest to schools with drafting, technology, architecture and
engineering design programs. In addition, schools with art, film and
computer animation and visualization curriculums will benefit from the
ability to purchase this popular Autodesk software at a greatly lowered
cost to the campus.

"More and more colleges and universities offer or want to offer Multimedia
programs for architecture and engineering students. Also, computer
graphics and animation design programs are an increasingly important
priority for film schools and art departments," commented Jim Purcell,
Autodesk's Director of Education. "These programs typically have very
limited budgets for software; taking advantage of Autodesk Preferred
Education Partner volume rates can sometimes make the difference between
having and not having a Multimedia design curriculum."

Prior to the inception of the Autodesk Preferred Education Partner Program,
schools could acquire Autodesk products only by purchasing stand-alone
software packages for each computer in the classroom. Autodesk Preferred
Education Partners receive Autodesk software and a variety of technical
support, curriculum and training benefits by paying an annual membership
fee based upon the number of units of software licensed. As an example,
under a three year agreement, a college may install up to 100 campus-wide
licenses of Autodesk's 3D Studio, 3D Props, 3D Surfer, Animator Studio and
other complementary Autodesk multimedia design software products. All
software is contained on one set of CD ROM disks. Depending upon the
number of licenses installed, the cost could be as little as $250 annually
per computer.

Autodesk will collaborate with schools to extend software and support
benefits to all involved departments or schools in an educational system.
A comprehensive membership package can be developed for each participating
school site, maximizing the funds and hardware available.

In addition to affordable software, Autodesk Preferred Education Partners
will always have ready access to current Autodesk technology. Budgeting is
simplified and more predictable because automatic, semi- annual software
upgrades are included in the annual membership fee. Campus administrators
can better manage and track their Autodesk software inventory, updates and
upgrades.

As part of their annual membership fee, schools that participate in the
Autodesk Preferred Education Partner Program will also receive the
following benefits and resources at no extra charge:

Automatic, semi-annual updates to software under the subscription.
This includes new releases and platforms, ensuring that schools
are teaching current Autodesk software versions on the appropriate
 hardware.

Telephone technical support is provided to two representatives
from the Partner campus, with direct access to Autodesk's Product
 Support Representatives.

Special rates for additional campus-wide subscriptions are offered
to the Partner school, which can bring down overall software costs
 even further.

The VIP Faculty Club provides special support and resources to
the Partner faculty representatives. Members receive technical
and academic white papers written by experts in design and education,
a bi-monthly newsletter and free or special offers on Autodesk
 software.

Reduced rates on customized training workshops and seminars presented by
Autodesk are also available to member schools.

Autodesk Preferred Education Partner memberships are currently available to
educational institutions in the U. S. directly from Autodesk Region
Managers for Education or phone 415-507-6415. The Autodesk Preferred
Education Partner Program is the latest offering from Autodesk's Education
Department, which is dedicated to provide the software and services that
prepare individuals for careers in design. Recognizing that educator and
student needs are different from those of commercial users, Autodesk
offers special packages and prices to educational institutions, faculty
and students, and trains users through its network of over 800 Autodesk
Training Centers worldwide.

Autodesk is the world's leading supplier of PC and UNIX-based design
