AT&T Network Systems to introduce home wiring network

January 22, 1996 -- MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- With AT&T Network Systems' new
HomeStarR Wiring System, homeowners can network together, and distribute
throughout their homes, all of their audio/video entertainment centers,
personal computers, phones, printers, fax machines, satellite dish
antennas and security systems.

Once connected, any of these interactive products and services, including
connection to the information superhighway, can be accessed simultaneously
from any system outlet in the house.

For example, the HomeStar Wiring System makes it easy for a consumer with a
satellite dish, or a single VCR, to view programs on any TV in the house.
Home computers can be networked so that a document created on a PC in one
room, can be sent to a shared printer elsewhere in the house. For home
security, the system can be configured so that output of closed-circuit
cameras can be viewed on any TV.

The system will be introduced at the National Association of Home Builders,
at Booth # 6569, held January 26-29, 1996 in Houston.

The HomeStar Wiring System is a network of copper cables, a server unit and
wall outlets capable of carrying high-speed data and video signals --
thereby connecting, collecting, routing, sending and receiving information
-- from any of the networked equipment.

US Tec, Canandaigua, N.Y., has been named to market, distribute and install
the HomeStar Wiring System nationwide, to builders, home system
specialists and homeowners. Based on the size and scope of a home network,
the price for an installed system begins at $900.

"The HomeStar Wiring System capitalizes on Bell Laboratories' networking
innovations; on Network Systems' experience in designing and installing
complex, private telecommunications networks, and on US Tec's home wiring
expertise," said David Laughland, vice president, Marketing, AT&T Network
Systems.

"Wiring in homes today, even in newly built ones, cannot handle the demands
of new multimedia and advanced, interactive communications services,
without the HomeStar System," said Bill Thompson, president, US Tec.

"With it, our customers will get the fullest enjoyment and use of today's
offerings, and be assured that they've got their welcome mats out for
future services.

The HomeStar Wiring System complies with the Consumer Electronic Bus
(CEBus) Standard which sets forth specific procedures and guidelines so
that devices -- and services -- from various suppliers can work together.

Contractors and homeowners can get more information about the HomeStar
Wiring System and the name of the nearest US Tec dealer by calling US Tec
at 1-800-836-2312.

By the end of 1996, AT&T Network Systems will form part of a new systems
and technology company with more than $20 billion in revenues. The new
company will produce a wide range of telecommunications products,
including microelectronics, consumer and business telephone systems and
network infrastructure equipment. Bell Laboratories will continue to be
the research and development engine for that company.
