AT&T to publish Web-based online service for business professionals

JANUARY 4, 1996 -- CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- AT&T today announced that it will,
in mid-1996, publish a World Wide Web version of AT&T Business Network,
the online service for business professionals.

A product of AT&T's New Media Services unit, AT&T Business Network provides
business professionals, managers and entrepreneurs with easy access to the
news, information and business services they need to grow and manage their
businesses. AT&T Business Network features content from a wide range of
leading publishers, including CNN Interactive, Dow Jones Business
Information Services, Dun & Bradstreet Information Services, Standard &
Poor's and TRW, as well as seamless links to Internet business content.
The service is currently hosted on AT&T Interchange Online Network, an
advanced publishing platform that hosts specialized services developed by
independent publishers.

Under the plan announced today, AT&T New Media Services will create a
series of business information products for the World Wide Web, the first
of which will be AT&T Business Network Version 2, available in mid-1996.
Through the proliferation of standard Web browsers and through the reach
of standard Internet access providers, like AT&T WorldNet Services, AT&T
Business Network Version 2 will be accessible to millions of business
professionals, managers and entrepreneurs.

During the first half of 1996, AT&T New Media Services will continue to
grow and invest in the initial version of the AT&T Business Network
service on the AT&T Interchange platform. At mid-year, it will offer to
upgrade its customers to the Web-based AT&T Business Network Version 2. By
late 1996, the World Wide Web will be the principal means of distribution
for AT&T Business Network.

"AT&T WorldNet Services is already bringing millions of business customers
to the Internet," observed Michael E. Kolowich, president of AT&T New
Media Services. "It makes sense for us to invest in ways to make our
value-added content services readily available to those AT&T WorldNet
customers and to others with Internet access. Our current publishing
partners are pursuing similar paths -- by taking advantage of the current
superiority of the AT&T Interchange publishing platform while at the same
time preparing new versions of their products for the World Wide Web. We
have teams in place to fully support our partners in these efforts and to
make the transition smooth and painless for customers."

"Today, AT&T Interchange Online Network represents the most sophisticated
way of accessing and representing published information. In the future,
however, the amount of innovation being applied by thousands of
organizations -- including AT&T -- will ensure that similar or superior
capabilities will be available through open, interoperable standards,"
Kolowich continued. "Open, interoperable standards are fundamental to
AT&T's telecommunications approach, and are the foundation of AT&T's
Internet and online services strategy."

Since its acquisition by AT&T in December 1994, AT&T New Media Services has
dedicated a steadily increasing number of technical and operating
professionals to implement Internet access and links for AT&T Business
Network, and to prepare for Web-based products. "That trend will
accelerate during the course of 1996," said Dave Power, vice president and
general manager of AT&T New Media Services. "Our staff will apply its
experience, skills and tools to an open standards environment."
