Kids Bring SuperBowl to the World Wide Web, Thanks to the Apple Internet
Server Solution

CUPERTINO, California--January 27, 1996--As football fans anxiously await
the opening kickoff of SuperBowl XXX, students at Sonoran Sky Elementary
School in Scottsdale, Arizona will be standing by to provide up-to-the
minute information on the Internet. Using Apple Internet Server Solution,
Macintosh LC computers, QuickTake cameras and scanners, students are
mastering the art of Web publishing.

For visitors in town for the game, want to find out which local restaurants
rate "five footballs?" Afraid of tarantulas? Looking for unique tourist
spots? Log on to http://www.aristotle.com/kidkixxx.html and "Share the
Warmth" with students. Visitors to this Web site will find information
about the Sonoran Desert, insects to be aware of, and quizzes about the
mathematical statistics of football, ranging from "Rookie" to "All Star"
difficulty. There is even an online performance of "RagTime Cowboy Joe,"
sung by the Sonoran Sky Elementary School chorus.

"The SuperBowl project has been a tremendous validating experience for our
students, helping them realize that there is a global audience for their
knowledge," says Bev Kilgore, computer teacher at Sonoran Sky Elementary
School. "Apple's Internet products, as well as the online publishing
capabilities of Macintosh, have been a tremendous boon for us. They are so
easy to set up and maintain, and so simple for students to learn."

"Sonoran Sky Elementary School's success with this Web site underscores the
accessibility of Apple technology to adults and kids of all ages," said
John Santoro, Apple's Education marketing manager. "These kids have
created a wonderfully compelling Web site that takes a unique view of the
SuperBowl. We are so proud of their accomplishments."

What began as a humble partnership between business, community and the
local school district to foster the integration of technology into the
curriculum has become a highly visible endeavor in sophisticated Web
publishing. In 1995, Sonoran Sky Elementary School was named a "Journey"
School by the Arizona Department of Education. The Journey School program
is designed to advance science and mathematics education through the
integration of technology into the curriculum. A key part of the program
involves establishing partnerships between business, administration,
teachers and parents. Enter Jefferey F. Billings, a local businessman with
two companies devoted to environmental clean- up; Bev Kilgore, a computer
teacher with a vision for how technology can positively impact classroom
learning; Tacy Ashby, a dynamic school principal; and the Paradise Valley
Unified School District, a District with a far-reaching commitment to
technology. After being introduced to the Apple Internet Server Solution,
members of the partnership decided that introducing kids to publishing on
the World Wide Web would be important to achieving the goals of a
"Journey" school.

"We're talking about kids from K-6 doing Web publishing! The original
partnership, combined with the SuperBowl project, have made the students
here motivated and excited. Both students and teachers have gone a step
beyond, achieving more than they ever thought possible," said Tacy Ashby,
Sonoran Sky Elementary School Principal. "Above all, our students are
learning skills that will carry them far into the future. They are
learning digital photography by using QuickTake cameras, as well as online
publishing skills that are in high demand in today's business
environment."
