New AppleVision 1710 Monitor Offers High Resolution, Trinitron Technology
at a Competitive Price

MACWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO, California--January 9, 1996--Continuing its
tradition of offering cutting edge display technologies at affordable
prices, Apple Computer, Inc. today announced immediate availability of the
AppleVision 1710. This 17 inch multiple scan color display offers high
resolution and the superior brightness and clarity of the Trinitron tube
for mainstream business users of Power Macintosh, Mac-compatible, OS/2 and
Windows-based computer systems.

"Customer's who use their display several hours a day expect outstanding
screen clarity so that it's comfortable to look at, and high-screen
resolution so they can view more of their work in greater detail," said
Rick McEachern, product line manager for Apple display products. "As both
a hardware and software company, Apple is able to provide intuitive
software that makes the display's powerful features easily accessible. And
the display's built-in compatibility makes it a perfect choice for
demanding mainstream business customers using any of the popular computing
platforms on the market today."

This 17 inch (16.1 inch viewable image size) multiple scan monitor uses the
latest 0.26 mm stripe pitch Sony Trinitron tube for sharp, clear images.
Multiple resolution support allows customers to switch to the resolution
most appropriate for the work being done. The display boasts a maximum
resolution of 1280x1024 at a 75Hz refresh rate, or can address 1600x1200
resolution at 60Hz. All display features are easily controlled through an
intuitive Macintosh software control panel. The AppleVision 1710 display
is also Windows 95 plug and play compatible right out of the box, making
it an ideal choice for a mixed computing environment.

Color Calibration Technologies

The AppleVision 1710 leverages Apple's unique DigitalColor technologies
which debuted in the AppleVision 1710AV last summer. DigitalColor provides
automatic color calibration and correction for the effects of ambient room
light and CRT aging, resulting in improved color fidelity, stability and
accuracy over time. Like the AppleVision 1710AV, Apple's newest display
supports ColorSync 2.0, Apple's color management system, and facilitates
the selection of PANTONE Colors via the PANTONE Color Picker.

The AppleVision 1710 is compliant with all major energy and safety
standards, including VESA, DPMS, MPR II and EnergyStar. It also includes
an energy-saving innovation that puts the monitor into a zero watt sleep
state when not in use, saving significant energy costs.
