Apple and Third-Party Products Provide Customers With Flexibility In
Managing Information Between Newton PDAs and Personal Computers

New Applications, Utilities Expand Newton Desktop Integration and
Synchronization Capabilities

CUPERTINO, California--January 8, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today outlined
a suite of personal computer integration products that builds on the
foundation provided by Newton 2.0, the recently announced new operating
system for the Newton platform. The new products expand the range of
solutions for integrating the Apple MessagePad 120 and other Newton PDAs
with both Mac OS- and Windows-based personal computers and enterprise
environments.

These products provide a growing base of powerful mobile solutions that
allow customers to quickly synchronize information such as calendar
appointments, contact names and meeting notes, on a Newton PDA with
existing PC applications, backup Newton information and easily take
information from a PC with them. Many of these new products are being
demonstrated in the Apple booth (South Hall, Room 103) at Macworld Expo,
being held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, January
9-12.

"Seamless desktop integration--the ability to easily access, work with, and
exchange data between personal computers, the enterprise environment and
PDAs--is one of the critical features our customers have been requesting,"
said Steve Andler, senior director of Apple's Mobile Systems Product
Marketing. "These new Newton PC integration products provide powerful,
compelling solutions that enable customers to be more productive in and
away from their office in a way that no other PDA platform provides
today."

Newton Integration Solutions Newton Press

Publishing and Distributing Electronic Documents With Newton Press, mobile
professionals and corporate customers can take advantage of the combined
power of personal computers, enterprise information and Newton PDAs to
easily publish and distribute electronic documents. Documents such as
travel itineraries, meeting agendas, price lists, and maps now can be
readily available to reference, annotate, fax or print.

Newton Press provides an easy drag-and-drop method for creating electronic
reference documents or Newton books from files on a personal computer.
These books are created by simply dropping files onto the Newton Press
icon, which automatically formats the read-only document so it can be
easily viewed on a Newton PDA.

Because of the enthusiastic response of customers to the capabilities of
Newton Press, Apple is distributing a prerelease version online, free of
charge. Newton Press for Macintosh is available online now and is expected
to be available in stores in early February. The prerelease Windows
version is expected to be available online early this year (please refer
to editor's note for online locations). Both the Mac and Windows versions
of Newton Press are expected to have an Apple Price of US$69.00.

"Apple's new integration solutions have significantly changed the way I
work," said lawyer Jeff Goldman, Law Offices of Jeffrey Allen Goldman, Los
Angeles. "With Newton Press, for example, I can publish specific
information from my personal computer for use at any given time. Whether
it's a client file, deposition summaries, or jury instructions, the
information I need is as close as my Newton device."

Newton Backup Utility: Direct Synchronization with Macintosh and Windows

Applications Newton Backup Utility allows customers to back up and restore
Newton 2.0 information to a personal computer. The utility also installs
software packages from a PC to a Newton PDA. Versions of Newton Backup
Utility for both Mac OS- and Windows-based PCs are now available online
and also free of charge with the Apple MessagePad 120.

Integration Applications From Third Party Developers

In addition to Apple's products that facilitate PC integration, there are a
number of solutions from third-party developers that provide for direct
synchronization between a Newton PDA and popular Mac and Windows desktop
applications. Apple will continue to work aggressively with Newton
developers to ensure that customers will have a broad range of these types
