Developer Central Pavilion Returns to MacWorld Expo

Apple and MacTech Magazine Expand Developer Resource Showcase

CUPERTINO, California--January 2, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. and MacTech
Magazine today announced that they will again join forces to spotlight the
latest developer tools, services and information at MacWorld Expo/San
Francisco. From January 9-12, 1996, Apple and MacTech will unite with
leading developer product vendors at the largest Developer Central in
MacWorld history, to demonstrate the strength of Apple Macintosh and
Newton systems as development platforms.

"As the competitive environment grows more intense and complex for software
developers, platform vendors must play an active role in facilitating
technology adoption," said Shirley Stas, acting vice president, Apple
Developer Relations. "Developer Central simplifies the technology adoption
path by promoting direct communication among critical participants in the
development process: tools providers, developers, users who quickly adopt
new technology, and Apple."

"The Developer Central concept makes sense for all players," said Jean
Belanger, chairman, Metrowerks Inc. "It offers attendees a one- stop shop
for tools updates and new products; it provides vendors like Metrowerks a
highly-leveraged presence at MacWorld, and it illustrates Apple's
commitment to developer tools partnering efforts."

The 10,000-square-foot pavilion is expected to attract at least 16, 000
MacWorld attendees interested in creating commercial and corporate
applications, multimedia titles, and custom solutions. Pavilion activities
are designed to educate and enlighten developers of all experience
levels:

Each day at the pavilion's two theaters, certified instructors and software
engineering experts will host introductory seminars and tutorials on key
technologies from Apple and third-party vendors.

The Overview Theater will offer 30-minute survey sessions on topics
including the Macintosh business proposition, Adobe plug-in architectures,
Oracle Developer 2000 (a new object-oriented client/server modeling tool),
and programming for the Newton 2.0 operating system. The Training Theater
will present in-depth tutorials on subjects such as the OpenDoc component
software model, Copland (the next-generation Macintosh operating system),
FileMaker Pro 3.0 database software, QuickTime VR and QuickDraw 3D. All
theater seminars are offered at no additional charge to MacWorld Expo
attendees.

The pavilion's 60 display stations will feature demonstrations of the
newest development products from Apple and third-party vendors. Many
companies planning significant developer tools announcements will be
represented in the exhibit area. Some of the participating companies
include Absoft; Adobe Systems, Inc.; Claris Corporation; Daystar Digital;
EveryWare Development Corp.; Metrowerks Inc.; Microsoft Corporation;
Motorola RISC Software; Natural Intelligence; Oracle Corporation;
Pictorius Incorporated and Symantec Corp.

An entire wing of the pavilion will be devoted to helping developers
understand the benefits of OpenDoc component software technology, which
recently began shipping as a Software Developer's Kit.

One of the most popular OpenDoc displays is expected to be the Cyberdog
station, where visitors will learn how to create custom applications for
the Internet using this pre- release suite of OpenDoc-based solution
tools. OpenDoc engineers and developers will play an active role in booth
demonstrations to share their experiences first-hand.

Dozens of tools and information products will be available for purchase
from the pavilion's Apple Developer Catalog Store and MacTech Mail Order
sales area. Many products will be discounted substantially.

Representatives from Apple's Developer Relations organization will be on
hand to explain membership and support programs tailored to individual
needs.

"Virtual Developer Central" CD-ROMs will be distributed to the first 8,000
visitors. A popular tradition at Developer Central since its debut at
MacWorld/Boston in 1994, the CD-ROM is a handy reference tool that
features detailed product and technical literature from the pavilion's
participating vendors.

The Developer Central Pavilion will be located at San Francisco's Moscone
Center, North Hall, Booth 3400. Pavilion hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00
p.m. on January 9-11; and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on January 12. Cost of
admission to MacWorld exhibits, which includes admission to Developer
Central exhibits and seminars, is U.S. $40. For additional information
