Adaptec Successfully Completes Rigorous Interoperability Testing

COMPANY'S ATM25 AND ATM155 NICS PROVEN INTEROPERABLE WITH ALL PRODUCTION
ATM SWITCHES

MILPITAS, CALIF, - January 8, 1996 - As a result of testing done at various
sites including the University of New Hampshire's independent ATM test
lab, Adaptec's ATM25 and ATM155 network interface cards (NICs) have now
achieved verifiable interoperability with ATM switches from Cabletron,
Newbridge Networks, UB Networks and 3Com. These manufacturers join an
already impressive list of ATM switch providers including Bay Networks,
Cisco Systems, Digital Equipment Corporation, First Virtual, Fore Systems,
IBM and Whitetree.

"To the best of our knowledge, Adaptec's ATM NICs are the most
interoperable products on the market today," states Gary Law, vice
president of marketing for Adaptec's INTO business unit. "We are truly the
ATM NIC gold standard-and our successful, continuous interoperability
testing program proves it."

COMPLETE INTEROPERABILITY TESTING

Complete testing was performed using ATM25 and ATM155, Adaptec's 25 Mbps
and 155 Mbps product families. Tests included ATM Forum User-to-Network
Interface (UNI) compliance, Classical IP over ATM (RFC-1577), LAN
Emulation and Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) functionality. Specific
testing results and parameters may be viewed at Adaptec's ATM Networking
page at http://www.adaptec.com/networking/ATM.html. This ATM Product and
Interoperability Matrix is updated regularly.

ABOUT ADAPTEC'S ATM NICS

Adaptec's ATM NICs are available in two product lines: ATM25 NICs for PCI,
SBus and MicroChannel systems; and the ATM155 NICs for PCI and SBus
systems. The ATM155 family runs at industry-standard 155 Mbps speed; the
ATM25 family runs at the Desktop ATM25 Alliance's standard 25.6 Mbps
speed. All Adaptec ATM NICs are single-slot adapters featuring a
high-performance architecture that implements the ATM Adaptation Layer 5
(AAL 5) protocol conversion feature, and non-AAL 5 pass through. This
important feature allows non-ATM traffic to traverse ATM networks. Each
NIC provides full duplex and up to 1, 024 virtual channel identifiers. In
addition, all Adaptec ATM NICs meet the stringent U.S. FCC Class B
standards for electronic emissions.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Adaptec's ATM155 NICs are available now with prices ranging from $895 to
$995. The Adaptec ATM25 NICs range in price from $349 to $449.
