Adobe Systems and Epson Announce a Low-Cost Image-Editing Solution for
Consumers

Bundle Features Adobe PhotoDeluxe Software and Epson Action Scanning System
II

MACWORLD EXPO, San Francisco (January 9, 1995)(Nasdaq: ADBE) -- Adobe
Systems Incorporated and Epson America Inc. today announced an agreement
to bundle Adobe PhotoDeluxe software for Macintosh with Epson's new
low-end Macintosh scanner, the Epson Action Scanning System II, here at
Macworld Expo. Under the terms of the agreement, Adobe PhotoDeluxe
software for personalizing, modifying and enhancing photographs will be
included with the Epson Action Scanning System II compact 24-bit color
flatbed scanner. Adobe PhotoDeluxe software provides an easy-to-use
interface for importing photos from a scanner and guided activities for
adding them to calendars, cards and other creative projects. The bundle
will provide home and small office users with an easy-to-use, high-quality
image-editing solution for less than $500.

The scanning system bundle is expected to be available this month from
major retail outlets that carry Epson products. The estimated street price
is $499, a savings of $129--the suggested retail price of Adobe
PhotoDeluxe. Users can see a demonstration of Adobe PhotoDeluxe at Adobe's
booth #1229 at Macworld Expo, Moscone Convention; the Epson Action
Scanning System II can be seen at the Epson booth #2007.

"With the availability of powerful, yet affordable input devices such as
the Epson Action Scanning System II and Adobe PhotoDeluxe software, there
is now a complete digital solution for the consumer market," said Bruce
Chizen, vice president, Adobe consumer products group. "Adobe will
continue to ally itself with leading hardware companies such as Epson to
ensure that digital editing becomes even more accessible to home and small
office users."

Adobe PhotoDeluxe photo-creativity software makes it easy to modify,
personalize and enhance photographs by offering an easy-to-use interface
and dozens of built-in templates and guided projects. Photo activities
range from incorporating photographs in greeting cards and calendars, to
creating photo collages and removing the unwanted "red eye" effect. Adobe
PhotoDeluxe provides users two modes of working in the program: Guided
Activities and On Your Own. In either mode, the user interface visually
guides both novice and expert users through each step of the photo
modification and enhancement process.

The Epson Action Scanning System II is geared toward first-time scanner
users seeking a complete, easily-configured scanning system, including
software and cables, and is designed to be up and running in minutes.
Maximum resolution of the 24-bit Epson Action Scanning System II is 2400 x
2400 dpi (interpolated). Epson provides a one year warranty and lifetime
toll-free technical support with the scanner.

In addition, the Action Scanning System II's Text Enhancement Technology
(TET) adds to overall ease-of- use and text-scanning accuracy. This
technology, which is exclusive to Epson scanners, provides greater OCR
(optical character recognition) accuracy and makes it possible to scan and
edit text from pages with colored backgrounds.

"Adobe PhotoDeluxe makes it easier than ever to put pictures into all kinds
of documents. Plus, the software integrates the scanning process so that
the average user can easily understand and start using this technology
right away," said Jim Sutton, product manager, scanners, Epson America
Inc. "Adobe PhotoDeluxe and the Epson Action Scanning System II are a
perfect solution for first time scanner users. This bundle combines
powerful, yet easy-to-use software and hardware for novices who want to
stretch their creativity and effectiveness."
