DISCLAIMER:

This product is offered as is, as a service to the
students of Learning Network, Inc. and to the greater
Access community. It may be used both internally and for
commercial development. The one restriction
on its use is that it may not be used in any form
of training in Access other than by Learning Network, Inc.
No warranties of any type are provided for this product.

OVERVIEW:

This product is designed to be used in conjunction with
the Microsoft Security Wizard. After successful use of the
Microsoft Security Wizard all security privileges will
have been stripped for the three original groups: Guests,
Users, and Admins. If you desire to allow others use of
your application it is now necessary to assign some
privileges to the existing groups or to newly created
ones. This process involves assigning by hand large
numbers of various privileges to use your application to
one or more groups.

Many users of Access have asked if there were any way
to automate this task. The Learning Network Security
Wizard was conceived of and developed by Learning
Network, Inc. in response to this problem, and has
been offered to our students as part of their training
as power users or developers in Access.
The Learning Network Security Wizard automates
the process of assigning read-only, read/write, or full
privileges for each user group. It may be run several
times for each group over a user selected choice
of the Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports, Macros
and Modules to give whatever combination of
privileges is desired. With certain advanced methods
common to many developers, exceptions to these
general rules may have to be made in selected cases.
These can be done by hand, using this program to
bulk process the more common cases.

INSTALLATION:

(1) Copy LNSECWIZ.MDA to your \ACCESS directory.
(2) Open MSACCESS.INI in Notepad.
(3) Find the [Libraries] section.
(4) Add the line: c:\access\lnsecwiz.mda=ro
(5) Find the [Menu add-Ins] section.
(6) Add the line: LN Security Wizard==lnsw_EntryPoint()
(7) Start (or exit and restart) Access.

You may now activate the program by selecting "LN Security
Wizard" from the Help Menu. Note that you *must* have a
database open at the time. You should be signed on under
a developer login, and have previously secured your database
using the Microsoft Security Wizard. It should be noted
the only Microsoft approved method of securing a database
in Access 1.X is by use of their program. The reasons for
this are made clear in the Microsoft white paper SECURE.ZIP
available in Lib 12 of the MSAccess forum on CompuServe.

This library is meant for use with Access 1.1 only. We are
considering developing an Add-In that extends the Access 2.0
security, and solicit support and suggestions in that
direction.

provided by Learning Network, Inc., both on and off site,
