AUTOFIX.MDB

The enclosed Microsoft Access database file, AUTOFIX.MDB, allows you to specify an unlimited number of Microsoft Access files to be repaired and then compacted in succession. The opening form has a button "Edit/Add Files" that opens a form to add to the list of file names. Files are repaired and compacted in the order in which they are entered. The repair and compaction is started with the button labeled "Repair and Compact Database (s)". Alternatively, the timer can be set at the bottom of the form and the "Timer On" box selected to delay the start of the execution of repair and compaction. (Please note that the AUTOFIX.MDB program must be running in order for the delayed repair to start.)

The companion file, AUTORUN.MDB, repairs and compacts all files selected in AUTOFIX.MDB by double clicking AUTORUN.MDB from file manager or from an icon in Program Manager. This program is useful for users who don't want to be bothered with settings in the program or is especially useful with the System Agent program included with Microsoft Plus for Windows 95. Simply schedule AUTORUN.MDB to run in the middle of the night after you do your automatic back ups of all your database files. I schedule backup then repair, then defrag for all disks in that order.

SET UP

AUTOFIX.MDB can be placed anywhere in any directory. If used over a network, then the path to the target files(s) would be from the computer running AUTOFIX/AUTORUN. If AUTOFIX is placed in the same directory as the target file(s) then the path can be omitted. AUTORUN uses Theo Pozzy's reattachment module to reattach itself to AUTOFIX.MDB each time it is run. It must be placed in the same directory as AUTOFIX to work! (The Autorepair() function and reattachment module are also included in AUTOFIX.MDB.)
