Access Control Panel
---------------------
Many of the most important settings for Microsoft Access are
maintained in the MSACCESS.INI file. For example, the only
way to add new wizards or libraries is by using a text editor
to make manual changes to this file.

This program is used to maintain the more common settings in
the MSACCESS.INI file. A backup copy of this file is always
saved as MSACCESS.BAK in your \WINDOWS directory.

Below are explanations of the various controls and settings
in the Access Control Panel:

Active System Library
---------------------
The first text box is used to designate the System library for
Access. The default setting is:

  C:\ACCESS\SYSTEM.MDA

To the right of this box is a "browse" button which you can
use to search your hard disk for alternative system library
databases.

Below this box is a listbox which lists any alternative system
libraries which you may have on your system. The three buttons
Archive, Replace and Remove do the following jobs:

Archive - Takes the currently Active System Library and adds
it to the list of Archived System Libraries
Replace - Makes the currently-highlighted Archived System
Library become the Active System Library
Remove - Removes the currently-highlighted Archived System
            Library from the list box.

Active Utility Library
----------------------
The first text box is used to designate the Utility library for
Access. The default setting is:

  C:\ACCESS\UTILITY.MDA

To the right of this box is a "browse" button which you can
use to search your hard disk for alternative utility library
databases.

Below this box is a listbox which lists any alternative utility
libraries which you may have on your system. The three buttons
Archive, Replace and Remove do the following jobs:

Archive - Takes the currently Active Utility Library and adds
it to the list of Archived Utility Libraries
Replace - Makes the currently-highlighted Archived Utility
Library become the Active Utility Library
Remove - Removes the currently-highlighted Archived Utility
            Library from the list box.

Other Libraries
---------------
Other libraries include any Wizard databases or other miscellaneous
utility library databases. The listbox labelled "Active" shows all
of the currently-active Wizards and utility libraries.

The listbox labelled Archived lists those other libraries which
have been saved into the list, but which are not currently active.

The text box marked "Add" is used to add a utility library to the
Active list. You may use the Browse button to search your hard disk
for available utility libraries.

The buttons beside the Active listbox perform the following functions:

Archive - Copies the name of the currently-highlighted Active wizard
library to list of Archived Wizard libraries
Delete - Removes the currently-highlighted library from the Active List

The buttons beside the Archived listbox perform the following functions:

Activate - Moves the currently-highlighted archived Wizards database
          into the Active list
Delete - Removes the currently-highlighted library from the Archived List

Miscellaneous Settings
---------------------
The following settings can be used to control performance of Access.
Refer to the file PERFORM.TXT in your \ACCESS directory for information
on these settings:

  Max Buffer Size
  Read Ahead Pages
  Page Timeout
  Lock Retry
  Commit Retry

Other settings in the Miscellaneous Settings section:

dBase deletes: check this box if you want Access to show you deleted
records in dbase or FoxPro databases
Run Tutorial: check this box if you want Access to offer you the
                Tutorial when Access first starts
Start Maximized: Check this box to cause Access to open maximized

Run-Time Options
----------------
These settings are used to specify the Title Bar, Icon File, and Help
File for applications distributed with the Access Distribution Kit
run-time module MSARN110.EXE.

File Menu Options
-----------------
By default Access Control Panel works on your MSACCESS.INI file. You
can also use the program to maintain other .INI files in the MSACCESS.INI
format, such as those used with the run-time version of Access. The
File Menu options are:

Open - opens an .INI file which is in the MSACCESS.INI format
Save As - saves the current .INI file under another name
About- information on Access Control Panel
Exit - ends Access Control Panel

Requirements
------------
This program was written with Visual Basic 3.0. It requires
the run-time module VBRUN300.DLL. This file is available in
the MSBASIC forum on Compuserve. The file name should
be VBRUN3.ZIP. VBRUN300.DLL should be placed in your
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

This program also requires the file COMMDLG.VBX. This file
is provided along with this zipped archive. You should place
this file in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, but ONLY if you
do NOT already have a copy of this file there, or if this file
is NEWER than the existing copy.

In addition, this program requires the file CTL3D.DLL, which
you should already have if you have MS Access.
