NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION:
NetWare Client for DOS/MS Windows 1.2

ABSTRACT:

This files contains a Token-Ring Promiscuous Mode Fix Module. The fix is to
be used on workstations that are running token-ring drivers in promiscuous
mode. Applications such as Novell's Lanalyzer for Windows and Intel's LanDesk
require the driver to be in promiscuous mode while the application is being
run. This file contains a shim named TOKENFIX.COM that will correct problems
that may occur when running in the previously described configuration.

SYMPTOM:

This shim resolves a problem where packets are not filterd correctly by the
MLID. Packets not addressed to the workstation are passed up to bound
protocol stacks when they should not be. This does not cause problems at the
w/s.

One scenario in which the problem can be seen is a device sends IPX diagnostic
packets as broadcasts to multiple network addresses. If the packets pass by
the node running with a token-ring driver in promiscuos mode, the packets will
be passed up to the bound protocol stacks even if the network address
specified in the packet does not correspond to the workstation's network
address. The node will then respond to the ipx diagnostic packets - which may
cause problems for the device that initially sent the packets.

SOLUTION

If you are experiencing problems that may be caused by the problem detailed
above, install the file provided in TOKFIX.EXE.

Installation Instructions:

1. Copy the TOKENFIX.COM file to the \NWCLIENT directory located on the
workstation's boot disk.

2. Modify the STARTNET.BAT, or the batch file that is being used to load the
client drivers, to load the TOKENFIX.COM file after LSL.COM but before the
MLID (MADGEODI.COM).

3. Reboot the workstation, and load the updated drivers.
