	NetPhone Multi-User Networkable Phone Book

NetPhone is a multi-user Phone Book designed to run under Microsoft
Windows version 3.1 or greater, in a shared-file multi-user
environment using Novell Netware version 2.0 or greater, or on a
single user PC running DOS 3.3 or greater (DOS 5.0 or greater
recommended).

NetPhone will support multiple users of the same database, and keep
each user's entries private from all other users. In addition, users
may use multiple passwords to create different groups of entries.

Version 2.98 of NetPhone for Windows has many enhancements, including
a new field for Company Name, new sort options, new print options, an
option to output text to an ASCII file, and a bug fix involving
multiple passwords.

IMPORTANT---IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF NETPHONE,
NETPHONE NOW AUTOMATICALLY RUNS A CONVERSION UTILITY WHEN FIRST
BROUGHT UP. The conversion utility will convert your files to the new
format.

NetPhone is offered free of charge by Daniel W. Phifer Computer
Systems Specialist to acquaint people with the consulting services
available. Please view NetPhone's help file for more information on
DWPCSS.

The version of NetPhone offered in this release is a Windows-only
version requiring Microsoft Windows 3.1 or greater.

NetPhone is supplied on CompuServe in the form of a zip file, or on a
setup disk which is ready to install.

The following paragraphs apply ONLY if you have the zip file:

NetPhone is supplied in the form of a zip file, NETPHO.ZIP, which
contains this readme file and all other files necessary for Windows
setup. Place NETPHO.ZIP in a directory from which you will run the
Windows setup program and extract all files. You will be able to use
a different directory name for the actual NetPhone working directory.
Once the files are extracted, start Windows. From the Program
Manager, Select File, then Run, and enter "X:\TEMP\SETUP" where X is
the drive on which you have placed the NetPhone files, and \TEMP\ is
the directory name in which you have placed the NetPhone files. The
Windows Setup program will then guide you through the installation.

For example, if you placed the NETPHO.ZIP file on the C: disk in
directory \TEMP, you will first type (from the DOS prompt):
C:<Enter>
CD \TEMP<Enter>
pkunzip NETPHO.ZIP<Enter>

If you wish you may create an install disk for NetPhone. Simply
format a blank disk, extract NETPHO.ZIP to a temporary directory,
then copy the entire contents (EXCEPT NETPHO.ZIP) to the floppy disk.
Optionally, you may extract NETPHO.ZIP directly to the floppy disk.

Once the setup files are extracted, proceed as below.

The following applies to either the zip file, or disk setup:

Start Windows, Select File, then Run, from the Program Manager, and
in the Command Box, type:
C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE
The Windows Setup program will set up NetPhone.

NOTE FOR INSTALLING ON A NOVELL (or compatible) NETWORK:
NetPhone must place a file on the Windows System directory. Setup
will query your Windows setup to find this directory. Many Network
Supervisors make this directory READ-ONLY. You must change this
before running Setup, or you will get an error message.

Also, be aware that once Setup places the Database on your designated
data directory, the Supervisor must assure that these all files on
the directory are flagged "SHAREABLE/READ-WRITE", and that all users
have read-write access to this directory. If this is not done, errors
will occur.
