SYMPTOM

1. BOOTP requests made it to BOOTPD.NLM, but never made it back to the BOOTP
requester.

2. Creating a sub-network profile to support either FDDI_SNAP or
IBM_PCN2_SNAP, and creating a static IP address for a specific workstation in
the IP Address Assignment field of LWGCON, caused the following error when
UNISTART.NCF was invoked:

Error: Incorrect hardware address in entry <workstation name>
Error in parsing table. Bootp server unloaded.

3. Continuously adding and deleting workstations in the IP ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT
Field would cause either:
- an ABEND of the Server
or
- the information on the workstation being viewed contained a different
workstation's; name, IP address, and MAC address.

4. BOOTPD.NLM currently is not returning DNS information to a LAN WorkPlace
client receiving a statically assigned IP Address by the BOOTP server. NOTE:
This problem does not occur for dynamically assigned IP Addresses.

SOLUTION

Apply LWG42L.EXE.

Installation Instructions:
1. Invoke UNISTOP.NCF on the LAN WorkGroup file server console.
2. Make copies of your current BOOTPD.NLM, BOOTPFD.NLM and LWGCON.NLM files.
3. Copy the NLM files in LWG42L over the same named files in SYS:SYSTEM.
4. Invoke UNISTART.NCF.

Patch History:
Supersedes LWG42L, Revision A dated 03NOV94.

Solution Details:

Symptom #1
BOOTPFD.NLM (941121) now replies to a BOOTPFD request with a point-to-point
response, rather than a broadcast response.

Symptom #2
BOOTPD.NLM (940616) has been modified because it did not properly support the
FRAME types of FDDI_SNAP and IBM_PCN2_SNAP, even though they were in the
supported FRAME list.

Symptom #3
LWGCON.NLM (941013) has been modified because the pointer to a linked list
(which contains the workstation information, i.e. workstation name, ip
address, MAC address, sub-network profile) was not being updated.

Symptom #4
BOOTPD.NLM (940616) corrects the DNS failures for clients receiving statically
assigned IP Address:

1. Create a RESOLV.CFG in \NET\TCP on the user's private LAN WorkPlace
directory structure on the server or on the local system.

2. The contents of the RESOLV.CFG are as follows:
domain <name of DNS server>
nameserver <IP Address>

Example:
domain services.novell.com
nameserver 1.1.1.1

3. See Page 3-6 of the LAN WorkPlace Administrators Guide for more
information.
