WATCH Version 0.2
-----------------

WATCH is a fairly basic utility, serving just one
purpose. It monitors usage of your PCs 'interrupt' lines
for activity and turns the keyboard's SCROLL LOCK light
on and off to reflect this activity.

WATCH was originally designed with network cards in mind:
one of the most annoying things about networks is that
there is rarely any indication of activity. It's silent
and most PCs don't have a front panel LAN LED.

So, WATCH can be used to display network activity.
Simply load WATCH *after* your network drivers,
specifying the interrupt line used.

For example, if your network card uses interrupt 3 (which
is common):

     LSL
     NE2000
     IPXODI
     WATCH 3
     NETX

Some other uses ? Use WATCH E to monitor your local
AT/IDE drive in your PC. The only important thing is to
load WATCH *after* the software that uses the interrupt
(like network drivers or SMARTDRV).

Problems/Restrictions/Improvements
----------------------------------

1) WATCH must be loaded after the software using the
interrupt line. For example, the WATCH utility
may work OK in DOS but fail when you run Microsoft
Windows as Windows redefines some of the interrupt
   drivers (like the hard disk).

2) WATCH uses too much memory for my liking !!! The
current version of WATCH uses about 10K of base
memory which is about 20 times bigger than I would
like to be. My aim is around 500 bytes for the
   next version !!!

No testing has been done for LOADHIGH
   compatibility at this point.

3) No performance hit has been noticed but anything
is possible. I suggest some testing be done in
your environment before deciding in whether to use
   WATCH.

4) I would like the option to also 'click' the
speaker as an indicator of use. I have tried this
and it works OK . . . maybe next release.

5) WATCH can be loaded several times (for example to
watch two LAN cards) but cannot be unloaded at
this point. The shareware MARK and RELEASE
   programs do, however, work fine.

6) A future, Netware specific version should be smart
enough to figure out what interrupt to monitor all
   on it's own (WATCH /N ?).

This version is a pretty early release but has been
tested and has shown no problems other than noted
above. We do, however, suggest that you keep an eye
out for updates (or register as detailed below).
