              TECHNICAL  UPDATE  February 26, 1987
              ====================================
                          A  CURE  FOR
        ADDRESING/INTERRUPT  CONFLICTS WITH NOVELL SHELL
        ================================================

If you have an addressing or interrupt conflict with SMC ARCNET
and the Novell Advanced Netware Shell ANET2,ANET3, then use the
new SHELLDRV.OBJ file and the following procedure. It will allow
you to choose 1 of 18 different Address/Interrupt combinations
for your shell .

DRIVER -- ADDRESS -- MODIFICATION PROCEDURE
# (HEX) IRQ BASE RAM =======================================

=====================================      1. Put the new SHELLDRV.OBJ disk
                                              in Drive A and the Novell GENSH1
00      2         2EOh       D000:0           disk in drive B.

01      2         2FOh       D000:0        2. Type the following at the A> prompt
02      3         2EOh       D000:0           "A> copy shelldrvr.obj B:\SMC",<CR>
03      3         2FOh       D000:0           This replaces the older shelldrvr
04      4         2EOh       D000:0           with the new one.

05      4         2FOh       D000:0        3. Replace disk in drive A with a disk
06      5         2EOh       D000:0           containing DEBUG. At the A> prompt
07      5         2FOh       D000:0           type the following:
08      7         2EOh       D000:0           "A> DEBUG B:\SMC\SHELLDRV.OBJ", <CR>

09      7         2FOh       D000:0        4. At the DEBUG prompt"-",
0A      2         300h       C000:0           Type "-E403", <CR>
0B      3         2FOh       C000:0
0C      4         2EOh       C000:0        5. The display will look like this:
                                              "nnnn:0403  00._" (n-not important)

0D      5         2EOh       C000:0        6. Type in the Driver Choice number as
0E      7         300h       D000:0           as a two digit HEX number, <CR>
0F      2         300h       E000:0
10      3         2FOh       E000:0        7. At the DEBUG prompt, type "-W", <CR>
11      4         2EOh       E000:0
                                           8. Then type "Q" to end debug session.

Thats all there is to it. After the debug session is complete, you will have to do
two things:

   1 - Use the Novell program "GENSH" to generate the new ANET2,ANET3, and NETBIOS
   programs.

   2 - You must set the jumpers and switches on the ARCNET board to reflect the
shell driver option chosen.
