                            COLORS for dBASE IV

If you use dBASE IV (via the Control Center) on the LANs at DOE, and have a
color monitor, you may decide you're tired of the same old colors that are
the default colors for dBASE.

If this is the case, by following the instructions below, you will have a
way to change your color scheme while you are in dBASE. This program was
written by an employee at Borland, International (the company that
publishes dBASE), and is free. I have modified it for use with our LAN
setup, and to allow you to set 'default' colors for your sessions of dBASE.

Follow these instructions to set up the program so that you can use it from
the Control Center:

Press the <Escape> Key (once)
When the dialog box appears, choose "YES".

This will place you at the "dot" prompt of dBASE. Type:
!COPY G:COLORIT*.PRG and press <Enter>
(This tells dBASE to execute a DOS command, to copy a file from drive
G: -- make sure you type the ! at the beginning of the line)

Also at the "dot" prompt, enter the following, so we can make a minor
change to one of the last lines in your configuration file:
MODIFY COMMAND C:\DB\CONFIG.DB and press <Enter>
(This tells dBASE to modify the configuration file on your local hard
drive -- for your session(s) of dBASE)

Move the cursor to the line (this should be toward the bottom) that says:
COMMAND =        ASSIST

and change it to read:

COMMAND =        DO COLORIT2

This is the only change here, so press: <Ctrl><End>
(This tells dBASE to save this file and exit to the dot prompt)

Back at the "dot" prompt, type
ASSIST and press <Enter>

The Control Center will be back. There are just a few more steps:
Move the cursor to the APPLICATIONS column of the Control Center (with the
arrow keys).

Press <F10> to activate the menu, and choose the Catalog Menu, if this does
not come up.

Select: Add File to Catalog

Move the cursor to: COLORIT.PRG and press <Enter>

For the file description, type: Program to change colors in dBASE and
press <Enter>

The file should appear in the catalog now.

To run the program:
Move the cursor to it, and press <Enter>
   Select "Run Application"
   Select "Yes"

Choose a color scheme. If you do not like that one, go back and run the
application again. Select another. Notice that the last option is the dBASE
IV Default colors. You can always go back to those.

When done, you will be asked if you want to save that color configuration
as your 'default'. If you choose 'Y' ('Yes'), every time you load dBASE you
will start with those colors. You can change them to one of the other
options at any time simply by running the program again, and selecting new
colors.
