PRINTING TABLE STRUCTURES FROM INTERACTIVE PARADOX 5.0 FOR WINDOWS
========================================================================

INTRODUCTION
------------

This document describes how to print table structures from Paradox 5.0
for Windows. It is provided as a service to the Paradox community, in
return for a small ad regarding a shareware product designed to help
expedite the process greatly.

PRINTING TABLE STRUCTURES
-------------------------

To print a table structure from interactive Paradox:

1) Open a Structure Information dialog box containing the table you
want to work with. You can do this in several ways:

   1a) Open the Project Viewer.
1b) Choose the Tables icon in the types list.
1c) Select (highlight) the table you want to work with in the file
        list.
1d) Right+click (or press F6) to display the table actions menu for
        the selected table.
   1e) Choose Info Structure.

or

1a) Open the table you want to work with in a Table window.
1b) Choose Table | Info Structure.

or

1a) From the Paradox Desktop menu, choose Tools | Utilities | Info
        Structure.
1b) When the Select File dialog box appears, choose the table you
        want to work with.
   1c) Choose OK.

2) When the Structure Information dialog box appears, choose Save As.

3) When the Save Structure Information dialog box appears, enter a
valid table name for the structure table. For example, type
:PRIV:STRUCT and then choose OK. If a confirmation dialog box
appears, choose the option you want. (If you choose No, you need to
    enter a new table name.)

4) When the structure table has been saved, you return to the Structure
Information dialog box. Choose Done to close it.

5) Create a new report containing the table you created in Step 3. Use
any standard Paradox technique for creating the report. Make sure,
though, the data model of the report contains the table you created
    in Step 3.

6) Generally, you will want to change the layout of your report to
match your preferences. This takes several steps and can take some
time. Use your best judgment to find a format you like.

7) After adjusting the design of your report, print it using any
standard technique for printing a report. For example, you can
click the Print Toolbar button, you can choose File | Print, and so
    forth.

8) Save the report if you want to. This is a good idea because of the
time it takes to format a report the way you want it. If you save
the report in your private directory and consistently use the same
name for your structure information tables, you can use the same
report to print any table structure.

Tips and Hints:

1) Be aware that there are dBASE tables create different structure
tables than Paradox tables do. (For example, Paradox fields contain
a Key field while dBASE tables report Dec.) You may want to use
separate reports for each table type.

2) You can use separate names for structure tables and still use an
existing report with those new names. To do this, choose Change
Table from the Open Document dialog box (if you use File | Open
Report) or View With... or Print With... (if you open reports from
the Project Viewer). In either case, remember to use reports
appropriate for the structure information table you created.

HOW TO MAKE THIS PROCESS LESS PAINFUL
-------------------------------------

The above description will help you print the structures of your tables.
But, you can expedite the process, save time, and make it far less
convoluted process using a shareware product, the Print Table Structure
Guide.

The Guide is a Paradox for Windows Expert that breaks the process of
printing a table structure into three specific steps:

1) Choose the table(s) you want to print the structure of.
2) Choose the table properties you want to document.
3) Choose options for the report that is generated.

After you complete these steps, the Guide scans the table(s) you've
selected and then automatically creates a report for printing the
results of the scan. This report summarizes each table's structure in
an easy-to-read, familiar format. (And, yes, the Guide lets you print
the structure of more than one table in a single operation.)

You can obtain a shareware release of the Guide from Borland's PDOXWIN
forum on CompuServe. Look in Library 13 (Adds-ins and Training) for
PTSG10.ZIP. Registration costs $24.95 U.S. (+ $5.00 shipping/handling).
