Attention Clipper Developers

Is this scenario familiar to you?

The setting: You are talking with a potential customer about a
     project you are bidding on.
(C=Customer Y=You)
C: What language will this be written in?
Y: Clipper.
C: What in the world is Clipper? We don't want some strange piece
of software we can't maintain after you're gone. And we
certainly don't want something which is not proven and solid.
Y: Clipper is a database management system based on the dBASE
   command set and file structure.
C: I'm not hearing good things about dBASE, and have you seen
what's happening to A-T? No way, we don't want to be dependant
   on that platform.
Y: It's not dBASE exactly, and it's not an A-T product. It's made
by Nantucket and is a superior development platform to either
dBASE or FoxBASE. Nantucket has expanded the language to
include many more features which provide the developer with the
necessary tools to develope professional applications. For
example, you can interface with C and ASM routines, etc, etc,
   etc...
C: I don't know... Besides, if it's so wonderful, why haven't I
   heard of it before?
Y: You know that Accounting package you are using? And how about
that Telemarketing software, and your Project Management
software. Those were all developed with Clipper. You've been
using them for years. Have you been happy with them?
C: Well yes... (skeptical look on his face)

You barely pull it out of the fire and land the job, or perhaps the
customer is still worried about it and decides to go with someone
else who is developing in another, better known, language.

This is a situation all Clipper developers are familiar with. But
it doesn't need to stay this way. We can change it!

Clipper developers all over the world are pressuring Nantucket to
make the following changes.
1) Advertise to the end-user market. Let them know what Clipper
is and what a qualified developer can accomplish with it.
2) Provide some sort of a Logo we can use in our applications to
identify it as a Clipper application. Preferably something
small, simple, and recognizable which emphasizes the fact that
   Clipper is a solid platform.
3) Provide us with the same Logo in the form of a Sticker or Decal
we can apply to our packaging and include in our documentation
   and promotional material.

This effort is being spear-headed by the participants of Nantuckets
forum on CompuServe, and by Users Groups. We have established some
simple Logo's which we are integrating into the closing screens of
our applications through a simple udf() which paints it to the
screen. This Logo is basically the Nantucket Logo with the words
"Professional Software Utilizing Clipper Technology" embedded into
the logo.

In order for this campaign to be successful, we need all Clipper
consultants and developers to participate. You can help by using
these Logo's in your own applications and by letting Nantucket know
you support these ideas.

If Nantucket decides to not officially pursue these ideas, many of
us intend to do it ourselfs. Our local Users Group is considering
printing our own "Stickers" and encouraging all members to use the
Logo. If you are interested - leave me your name and a mailing
address so we can contact you.

I have uploaded the file CLIPLOGO.ZIP and it is also available
on CompuServe in NANFORUM DL 17, and will be on the Sept
Reference(Clipper) source code disk.

Thanks, Steve
(p.s. dBASE is a trademark of Ashton Tate, FoxBASE is a trademark
of Fox Software, Clipper is a trademark of Nantucket Corp... <just
in case :-)>)
