Ricoh Meeting Demands of American Market Through New Research and
Development Group

Ricoh Corporation is acting now to meet the technological demands of the
future.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ (April 18, 1994) -- Ricoh, a major manufacturer and
marketer of business equipment headquartered here, is opening a center for
software and hardware product development in San Jose, California. The
Systems Research and Development Group will apply Ricoh technology to
developing new operating and control systems for its digital equipment
products. The research group will also develop new application systems for
the American market.

Systems developed by the San Jose group will be designed to be
user-friendly and possess the flexibility to interact with major software
programs in the American marketplace. "These new systems will be more
sophisticated to satisfy the needs of our customers in the present
computer-driven networks and connectivity markets, and also satisfy the
needs of potential customers in the information highways of the future,"
said Ricoh President Eric Steenburgh.

Mr. Steenburgh said an indication of the importance of this group to Ricoh
lies in the individual named to head it, Kazuyuki (Ken) Baba, a former
board member of Ricoh Company Ltd., parent company of Ricoh Corporation.
Mr. Baba's most recent responsibility in Japan was general manager of the
Imaging Systems Business Group.

Ricoh already has invested substantial resources in its stand-alone core
product lines and has made good progress in the development of digital
systems products. Most of this work has so far been done by Ricoh
Corporation's parent company in Japan.

"Now we are entering a new phase, one that will bring product and system
development closer to the American marketplace, closer to our customers,"
Mr. Steenburgh said. The new systems development group will include
experts from both America and Japan, working together as a team under Mr.
Baba, who will report directly to Ricoh Corporation Chairman Hisashi
Kubo.

"Ricoh's early entrance to the digital, computer-connected market gives us
an opportunity to grow at an accelerated rate," Mr. Steenburgh said. "The
advances we expect from our new research and development group should
speed the development of our products and increase our share of the
American market."

The Systems Research and Development Group will be located in the same
facility as Ricoh's Peripheral Products Division at 3001 Orchard Parkway,
San Jose.

Ricoh Corporation is a diversified office equipment and electronics firm
with sales of nearly $1 billion annually. Ricoh is a leading supplier of
copiers, facsimiles and multifunctional document systems sold both
