Cobalt Blue, Inc. announces the second release of FOR_STUDY v1.2, a new
Windows version of their FORTRAN static analyzer. FOR_STUDY studies and
analyzes FORTRAN programs, then generates complete program documentation
(which is often missing from FORTRAN legacy code), identifies excess or
unnecessary code, and pinpoints hidden bugs. It extracts many local and
global reports, issues call tree diagrams and isolates items affecting
code portability, such as proprietary extensions and functions. Available
on MS-DOS, HP-PA, Sun-OS and 88Open, FOR_STUDY is invaluable for anyone
who has inherited FORTRAN legacy code due to downsizing, or is actively
programming in FORTRAN.

Version 1.2 for Windows uses a powerful, intuitive browser for searching
FORTRAN programs interactively by common, I/O and call tree views.
FOR_STUDY lets the user jump to any function in the code via an
alphabetized list or the application's call tree. It instantly displays
the function interface for any routine, showing arguments and their types,
and displays any common used in the routine, noting where it was set or
referenced, along with any common usage differences. The user can then
jump to a specific function with a simple keystroke - a valuable timesaver
when maintaining large FORTRAN programs!

FOR_STUDY provides useful consistency checks for arguments, common checks
for size and composition, numerous error and warning messages to highlight
potential problems, Fortran-90 style function/subroutine interfaces, plus
many local and global reports to document the FORTRAN code. Global reports
offer both summary and detail reports on common usage size and member
differences, lists of all I/O performed on each unit in every routine,
summaries on all routines and listings of inactive functions. Local
reports focus on excess code, reports on implicitly typed names, and a
variety of cross-reference reports.

Available on MS-DOS and UNIX, FOR_STUDY is an essential tool for any
FORTRAN programmer who needs well documented, concise code. FOR_STUDY
provides the information necessary to make informed decisions before
modifying FORTRAN programs, and can save thousands of dollars in code
maintenance costs. Fully compatible with FOR_STRUCT, Cobalt Blue's FORTRAN
restructuring tool, both products represent a cost-effective FORTRAN
maintenance solution.
