BAYFRONT TECHNOLOGIES, INC INTRODUCES COMPUTER-AIDED PROTOCOL ENGINEERING
(CAPE) SOFTWARE DESIGN, IMPLEMENTATION AND TEST TOOLS.

NEWPORT BEACH, California -- Bayfront Technologies, Inc. has introduced a
set of Computer-Aided Protocol Engineering (CAPE) software design,
implementation and test tools. Bayfront CAPE Tools can capture the design
and implement any software system that uses protocols, state machines or
timed control. This important class of systems includes communications,
transaction processing, distributed processing, real-time control, process
control, client/server and operating systems. Bayfront CAPE Tools provide
software designers with more power than general CASE tools because the
concepts of the problem area such as timers, events and messages are built
into the tools.

Bayfront CAPE Tools capture a user created protocol or state machine
definition and perform the following functions:

 - GENERATE ANSI C CODE to implement the protocol/state machine
 - GENERATE STATE & STATE/EVENT TRANSITION DIAGRAMS to aid in
the understanding of the protocol/state machine at a high
   level
 - GENERATE CCITT SPECIFICATION & DESCRIPTION LANGUAGE (SDL)
DIAGRAMS to describe the low-level details of the protocol/
   state machine
 - SIMULATE the states/events to give the designer experience
   with the protocol/state machine.

The Bayfront CAPE Tools automate up to forty percent of the effort to
implement, document and maintain complicated protocols and software state
machines. Protocols for a wide variety of operating systems including
DOS, OS/2, Windows, Windows NT, UNIX and proprietary real-time embedded
operating systems have been implemented with the Bayfront CAPE Tools.

The Bayfront CAPE Tools are a formal description technique and
implementation method similar to the ISO languages Estelle and LOTOS.
Unlike Estelle and LOTOS the Bayfront CAPE Tools are easier to use and
more accommodating to real-world hardware and software environments. A
formal description technique and implementation method for protocol and
software state machine design provides the following advantages:

 - more accurate and timely implementation of the protocol or
   state machine
 - less risk in estimating and managing the scope and complexity
   of an implementation
 - ease of communication about the project between members of a
   project group.

Bayfront Technologies CAPE Tools include the CCITT Q.931 ISDN protocol
state machine as an example of the power of the Bayfront CAPE Tools. The
CCITT Q.931 ISDN protocol sets up both voice and data connections in an
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).

Bayfront CAPE Tools are currently being used worldwide to build wide-area
communications switches, voice/data switches, ATM hubs, LAN servers,
wireless communications hubs, medical monitoring equipment, voice
servers, real-time process control systems, Fibre Channel mapping
protocols and satellite VSAT systems.
