ACC wins Data Communications Magazine Testers Choice Award

ACC Routers Put the Squeeze on Data (and the Competition) and Selected as
the Only Remote Token Ring Bridge to Deliver 4:1 Compression

CUPERTINO, Calif. (April 20, 19941 -- In the April issue of Data
Communications, Advanced Computer Communications (ACC) magazine has
received the Data Communications Tester's Choice award for remote Token
Ring bridge data compression. This award solidifies ACC's claim of leading
the LAN/WAN connectivity market with its Bandwidth Optimization software,
which is included to support ACC's entire LAN/WAN bridge/router hardware
line.

The lab test was performed by, The Tolly Group, the independent testing
organization, and profiled in an article entitled "Testing Remote Token
Ring Bridges," by Kevin Tolly of The Tolly Group and David Newman of Data
Communications. The lab test compared the data compression capabilities of
seven different Token Ring bridges from seven top internetworking vendors.
The lab technicians evaluated compression for two different kinds of
internetwork traffic: non-random ASCII data and precompressed versions of
the same ASCII data traffic. The results show that throughput varied
widely by vendor, but clearly the top performer across the board was ACC,
who bested the competition with a compression ratio of 4.2:1.

According to Data Communications, "in a field rife with dubious claims
about data compression, Advanced Computer Communications actually delivers
the goods. ACC's bridge, the ACS4200 compressed ASCII traffic at a ratio
of better than 4:1, the highest of any vendor in the test. And the box
combines top-notch performance with straightforward configuration and
management utilities."

"Since the release of our Bandwidth Optimization software, we have laid
claim to the title of the undisputed leader of bandwidth optimization,"
said Gary Krall, Vice President of Marketing for ACC. "The results of the
Data Communications lab tests show the internetworking marketplace what we
have been saying all along, that the data compression technology employed
in our entire product line is superior to any competitive product
offering."

Optimizing WAN Bandwidth

ACC's exclusive Bandwidth Optimization reduces the lifetime operating
expenses for wide area connections. The most expensive aspect of
maintaining a corporate internetwork is the cost of wide-area
connectivity. Since network users don't own the WAN links but lease them,
it's important to minimize the WAN charges. ACC's Bandwidth Optimization
features include data compression, which can cut the size of data
transmissions by an aggregate factor of 4:1 to reduce connectivity charges
and, in many cases, eliminate the need to upgrade to a faster WAN link.
ACC's Bandwidth Optimization features also include Express Queuing and
such dial-up routing features as Dial-on Demand, Dial Backup, and Dial-on
Congestion.

Advanced Computer Communications develops and markets products that offer
corporate and institutional network managers the ability to interconnect
and manage local- and wide-area data networks and gain mainframe
connectivity. ACC is committed to supporting popular industry standard
protocols and providing products that are designed to adapt to changing
customer requirements at the lowest incremental cost. ACC's bridge/routers
and SNA protocol converters are sold through 90 leading international VARs
and OEMs serving corporate customers, educational institutions,
governments, and PTTs in 24 countries around the world.
