(I) GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT PCL5 DRIVERS
===============================================================
These drivers provide enhanced output for Wysiwyg graphics printing
(:Print) in 1-2-3 for DOS Release 2.3 and 2.4. The drivers enhance
printing with the :Print menu; they do not work with 1-2-3 text
printing (the /Print menu) or with PrintGraph. These drivers will
output to both paper and transparency media.

PCL5 drivers provide features such as scalable font sizes and
colors, as well as vector graphics drawing for fastest print speed.
These features were previously available only through the use of
setup strings in the /Print menu. The Wysiwyg drivers contained in
your Update package provide even more functionality and eliminate
the need for setup strings.

(II) 1-2-3 FOR DOS APPLICATION NOTES:
===============================================================
1-2-3 for DOS will automatically use the internal scalable
typefaces resident in your HP or compatible printer when you
use a PCL5 driver in Wysiwyg.

If you have a 1-2-3 worksheet which you would like to print with
your HP or compatible printer driver, perform the following steps:

1. Use /File Retrieve to read the file into memory.

2. Select :Print Config Printer and specify your driver.

3. Select :Print Config Interface and specify the appropriate
   interface.

4. Select :Print Range Set.

5. When your HP or compatible printer is ready, select :Print Go.

Refer to your 1-2-3 User's Guide if you need more information on
printing with the :Print menu.

The following fonts, displayed when Wysiwyg is in memory,
will automatically map to your HP or compatible printer:

Swiss   => Univers
Dutch   => CG Times
Courier => Courier*

* LaserJet III series or compatibles and PaintJet XL300 users,
  see NOTE below.

NOTE: FOR IMPROVING WYSIWYG SCREEN CHARACTER-WIDTH MATCHING
      TO PRINTED OUTPUT

Follow these steps to select the HP printer font by name
through the Wysiwyg menu. You should especially follow these
steps if you have worksheet files that you may have
printed using any older versions of these PCL5 drivers.

1.  Select :Format Font Replace (1 - 8) Other.

NOTE: Remember that Font 1 is your default typeface. To
change the typeface of any particular cell or specified
range of cells, select :Format Font and a number from 1 to 8
corresponding to your currently defined library of 8 typefaces.

2. Select the appropriate printer font (HPxxxx.IFL)

Swiss   => Univers  => HP-UNVRS.IFL
Dutch   => CG Times => HP-TIMES.IFL
Courier => Courier  => HP-COUR.IFL

3. Specify desired point-size (1..72) of selected typeface.

4. Select /File Save to save your worksheet file. This
    guarantees that 1-2-3 will use the new IFL files and
    that enhancements in the updated drivers will take effect.

NOTE: FOR MORE INFORMATION ON USING FONTS IN WYSIWYG, PLEASE
      REFER TO YOUR 1-2-3 USER'S GUIDE

1. If you want to use your font selections with ALL new worksheets
    as you create them, retrieve a worksheet file that contains the
    fonts you want to use. Select :Format Font Default Update to
    save these font selections as your default font library.

    If you want to use your font selections with selected
    worksheet files, you can store your font selections in named
    font libraries instead of in the default font library.
    Use :Format Font Library Save to create a font library.
    For more information, refer to your 1-2-3 User's Guide.

2. If you want to re-use your default font library with existing
    worksheet files, first store the font library as a default
    (see step 1, above).

    Retrieve the existing file and select :Format Font Default Restore
    to apply your default font library. To update the file be sure
    to save these changes using /File Save.

NOTE: ADDITIONAL SCALABLE TYPEFACES AVAILABLE ON HP LASERJET 4 series
      and DESKJET  1200C.

You can select additional scalable typefaces on HP LaserJet 4 series and
DeskJet 1200C, or compatible, by name through the Wysiwyg menu.
See steps outlined in the above NOTE.

       Albertus           HPALBERT.IFL
       Antique Olive      HPANTOLV.IFL
       Coronet            HPCORNET.IFL
       Garamond Antiqua   HPGARAMD.IFL
       Letter Gothic      HP-GOTH.IFL
       Marigold           HPMARGLD.IFL
       CG Omega           HPOMEGA.IFL

NOTE: WYSIWYG SCREEN DISPLAY LIMITATIONS WITH HP SCALABLE FONTS.

Please keep in mind that 1-2-3 may not produce on screen the actual
font available in your printer. Moreover, you may notice that the
spacing between characters changes on screen when you select a font
available in your HP or compatible printer. This is done to indicate
the width of characters as they will appear on your printed output.

NOTE: COURIER FONT MAPPING LIMITATIONS ON HP LJ III SERIES
       & PJ XL300

A fully scalable Courier typeface is not included on the HP LJ III
series or PJ XL300. More recent models in the LJ 4 series and
DJ 1200C were the first to include this feature. Therefore, if
you are using an HP LJ III series or compatible printer, Courier
will automatically map to the best-matching typeface, which is
CG Times. If you need to use Courier in your printouts, you should
not use the PCL5 driver supplied on this disk for those print jobs.
Instead, select the original Extended Capabilities drivers that came
with your 1-2-3 package or with your printer.

======================================================
(III) PJ XL300 AND DJ 1200C ADDITIONAL COLOR NOTES
======================================================

Both the HP PJ XL300 PCL5 and DJ 1200C PCL5 drivers support color
output from Wysiwyg's :Print menu. You do not have to use any
additional print settings to create color output. No setup strings
are necessary.

  TO ADD COLOR TO YOUR WORKSHEET DATA:

Use the Wysiwyg :Format commands to set the Text and Background
colors for a particular entry (including negative values).
Once you use :Format Color to add color to your worksheet,
remember to save your work with /File Save. Wysiwyg output
from :Print Go matches what you see on the screen as closely as
possible (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get).

For more information on formatting with color, select :Format Color
after you start 1-2-3 and press F1 (HELP) to see a help screen.

  TO PRINT A GRAPH IN A WORKSHEET:

After you create a graph, you can use the :Graph Add command
to add the graph to the current worksheet. 1-2-3 lets size the
graph by sizing the worksheet range that will contain the graph.
After you add a graph to your worksheet, remember to save your
work with /File Save. To print graphs you add to the worksheet
along with worksheet data, use the :Print commands. Wysiwyg output
from :Print Go matches what you see on the screen as closely as
possible (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get).

For more information on adding and printing graphs in worksheets,
please refer to your 1-2-3 User's Guide.

  TO ADD COLOR TO A GRAPH:

Use /Graph Options Color to add color to a graph. If you have
several named graphs in one file, select /Graph Name Use to make
the named graph you want to color current before you use
/Graph Options Color. Also, if you added color to a named graph,
remember to save this new setting with the file using
/Graph Name Create. After you add Color to your graph(s), save
your work with /File Save.

For more information on 1-2-3 graphs, refer to your
1-2-3 User's Guide.

 TO ADD ADDITIONAL WYSIWYG GRAPH EDIT OBJECTS AND COLOR SELECTIONS
 FOR PRINTED OUTPUT:

You can use the Wysiwyg :Graph Edit Color commands to add more
text, arrows, and even freehand drawings to a blank worksheet
range or to a graph. You can select from among 240 colors with
which to fill objects or use as the background of your graph.

NOTE: Certain Wysiwyg limitations can cause discrepancies between
      some :Graph Edit display screen colors and printed output.
      Before you use the new PCL5 drivers to print your :Graph Edit
      objects in color, you may want to print the COLORTST.WK1
      worksheet originally supplied with your 1-2-3 package.

      (In case you cannot find your COLORTST.WK1 file, we have
       included it on your Update disk.)

      COLORTST.WK1 will allow you to compare available printable
      colors to the colors displayed on screen. Follow the steps,
      below:

      1. Select /File Retrieve and specify COLORTST.WK1
         as the file to retrieve from the 1-2-3 directory or from
         your Update floppy disk (inserted in drive A: or B:
         depending upon your system).

      2. Select :Print Config Printer and Interface.

      3. Confirm that :Print Range Set is correctly.

      4. Select :Print Go

      5. Compare your printed results to screen output in order
         to determine your best color selections from the Wysiwyg
         :Graph Edit palette of colors.
