Intel Launches Matched Memory Product Line

Hillsboro, Ore., Jan. 14, 1991 - Intel Corp. today
broadened its memory enhancement product line with the
introduction of system-specific SIMMs (Single In-Line Memory
Modules), the first memory modules in the Intel Matched
            Memory family.

Intel's 72-pin SIMMs, which provide additional system
board memory to make software run better and faster, are
quality-engineered for compatibility with select IBM,
Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Zenith computers. Available
immediately, the SIMMs are sold in 1MB, 2MB and 4MB
versions. Intel plans to market similar products specific
to other computer systems later in the year.

The Intel Matched Memory SIMMs plug directly into a
socket on the PC's motherboard in a procedure that typically
takes just a few minutes. Use of SIMMs leaves the system's
expansion slots free for a fax board, modem or other
enhancement products. If additional memory is required
after the SIMM sockets are full, one of Intel's AboveBoard
            products may be installed.

"Because of new operating environments, such as Windows
3.0, our dealers have asked us to provide additional options
for memory," said Kirby Dyess, Intel's memory enhancement
business unit manager. "Intel Matched Memory delivers the
            RAM that memory-intensive software demands."

With Matched Memory, Intel delivers competitive
pricing on products designed for quality and compatibility.
Suggested retail prices are: 1MB module, $225; 2MB module,
            $445; and 4MB module, $945.

The introduction of Matched Memory reflects Intel's
commitment to corporate customers who want motherboard
memory solutions as they upgrade to 386 CPU computing
            environments, according to Dyess.

"Entering the system-specific memory market is a
natural evolution of our business," Dyess said. "This is an
opportunity to broaden our scope, so that in addition to
being a reliable supplier of memory enhancement boards,
we're providing our customers with alternatives for memory
            solutions."

Intel has long been a pioneer in PC memory, beginning
with the introduction of SRAM (static MOS RAM) in 1969 and
DRAM (dynamic MOS RAM) in 1970. In 1971, Intel introduced
another first in the memory market, EPROM (eraseable,
programmable read-only memory). In cooperation with Lotus
Development Corp. and Microsoft Corp. in 1985, Intel
introduced the Expanded Memory Specification (EMS) and then
implemented the EMS standard with Above Board memory
boards. Intel's most recent contribution to new memory
technologies was Flash memory, introduced in 1988.
