SYMPTOM

This version of directory services fixed the auditing problem where high
     utilization occurs on NetWare 4.01.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Auditing has been enabled followed by high utilization.

CAUSE

When auditing runs up against an invalid object, it goes into a loop
     retrying to audit that object

SYMPTOM

This version of directory services fixed problems that can happen
        when synchronizing with remote servers.

SYMPTOM

This version of directory services fixed problems that can occur
with the split and join process.

SOLUTION

Update Directory Services to version 296 by apply the files in DS296.EXE.

     Self-Extracting File Name: DS296.EXE Revision: A

     Files Included Size Date Time

       UPD296.EXE 221788 03-14-94 10:48a

     Installation Instructions:

     1. The UPD296.EXE file removes the old version of NetWare Directory
Services (NDS) out of SERVER.EXE and inserts the new version in
place of it. To do this, place UPD296.EXE in the same directory as
          SERVER.EXE and type <UPD296>.

     2. UPD296 copies the original SERVER.EXE to SERVER.OLD then patches
SERVER.EXE. If you want to revert to the original version of
NetWare Directory Services, rename SERVER.OLD to an .EXE extension
          and then execute that program.

     3. Because Novell licensing is not handled through the SERVER.EXE file,
you can copy it to all the file servers in the tree.
