FIFOSET.TXT
Read Me Text File For FIFOSET.EXE ver 1.0 May 20, 1994

This is a utility that will either ENABLE or DISABLE the buffers on a
16550 UART running Novell DOS 7.

This program may be started in two ways. First 'interactively' by entering
FIFOSET. The program will then request the needed information from the
user. The second way is to start the program with the needed parameters
provided on the command line. This will facilitate running the program
from a batch file. To start the program with command line input, the
format is as follows

FIFOSET port mode size

Where Port is the valid COM port. Ports supported are 1 through 4.
Mode is E for ENABLE or D for DISABLE the UART Buffers.
Size is a number 1 through 4. Enter 1 for a buffer size of 1, 2 for
a buffer of 4, 3 for a buffer of 8, and 4 for a buffer of 14 bytes.

FIFOSET 2 E 4 will enable COM2 with a buffer of 14 bytes.

NOTE: When running Novell DOS 7 with TaskMGR in the Multitasking mode,
due to the fact the the ports are virtualized, if FIFOSET is executed
in one domain, it will not effect the UART as seen from another domain.
Another words if the computer is in multitasking mode and you need to
enable the buffer of a port for usage from several domains, you must
execute FIFOSET in each domain. The command line execution option is
ideally suited and designed for use in this situation. Use a batch file
to execute any programs that will benefit from buffering being enabled
and is not capable of automatically performing the job.

FIFOSET is released for use without fee or license to the Novell DOS user
