PERMISSIONS WIZARD

The main advantage of using the Permissions Wizard over the normal Access
permissions window is the extra security you add to a distributed application.

From the normal permissions window you can secure the form, report, macro and
module design with no problems. The problem only occurs when you try to
protect the design view of a table or query while giving the user full data
access. There is no way from the Access permissions window that you can give
a user or group any data access without the read design option being
automatically selected.

However if you use the Permissions Wizard and select the full data access
option for tables and queries you will not have this problem.

Another advantage is that you don't have to set the permissions for each user
and group separately. With the Permissions Wizard you can do multiple
selections.

INSTALLATION:

Copy Permwiz wizard into Access directory and install wizard using Add-Ins
options from File menu.

The Permissions wizard assumes that you are already the owner of the database
and that you are currently logged on in the owner's name. If you are not the
owner, you will receive an error message: "No permission for 'MSysACE's'. If
you are not the owner of the database, you should open a new database (logged
on as the correct owner) and import all tables, etc. from the original
database. Refer to Chapter 14 of the "Microsoft Access Building Applications"
manual for further instructions on securing an application.

When installed, double click on Permissions Wizard.

Select User/Group Names from the combo box and click on Plus + button to add
to selection list. Choose all the users/groups that will have the same
permissions, then click on appropriate Object Type and Permission Type for
selected User/Group Names. Click OK button to assign permissions.

Assign permissions for each user/ group in the combo box. If you forget one
group your system may not be secure.
