The CRAFTS forum may be reached by typing either GO CRAFTS or GO WOODWORKING.
The latter was added after we received a mention in a national woodworking
magazine that didn't use the word CRAFTS anywhere in their article.

The current section/library list (as of 9/92) is below:

The primary sysop is Susan Lazear, 76702,1664. Her business is called
Cochenille Design Studio. Her main product is the BitKnitter, a specialized
type of modem and software that interfaces the computer and the knitting
machine so that the operator may make a design on the computer and translate
it directly to a knitted item.

The Crafts forum opened on July 25, 1991. We already had a core of
membership from Pets forum's Livestock section, where a group had been
gathering for some time to talk about wool, spinning, weaving, knitting,
and so on. To this day, our Spinning section has been one of our
consistently busiest.

Crafts has sections for most of the fiber crafts: Knitting, Crochet,
Spinning, Weaving, Stitchery (embroidery, etc.), Lacemaking, and Sewing &
Quilting. We also have sections for Miniatures, Glass & Ceramics, and
Woodworking. Everyone else meets in our All Other Crafts section, where we
see a huge variety of different interests.

Crafts forum also has a rotating "Focus" section, which we change each month
to focus on a different craft that does not have its own section. Our
focuses have included "Making Music" (building instruments), Native American
Crafts, and two that have since gotten sections of their own, Miniatures and
Lacemaking. Members are encouraged to suggest focuses.

The forum also organizes exchanges. Some are specific to the craft--e.g.,
the weavers exchange dishtowels or the spinners exchange samples. Some are
forum-wide. For instance, we had a forum-wide Bookmark Swap, and are now
organizing a forum-wide Holiday Ornament Swap. Some are intended to make a
larger item, e.g. the current Friendship Afghan project in which we all make
enough squares for an afghan but then exchange them so that we all have a
variety of squares from other members. These swaps have been enormously
popular.

We have formal conferences each month. Our first series was on "Making Money
from your Craft". Our current series is "Using Your Computer as a Design
Tool". Both series have drawn a lot of interest.

Our libraries are growing *very* fast. One of our emphases in the libraries
has been on collecting software of interest to crafters, and we have an
excellent selection now, both of shareware and demos of commercial programs.
We also have many many GIFs illustrating our crafts.
