********** Beginning of moderated conference **********

9:02:29 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Hi, all... Let's get started. I'm
Steve Luper and I'm the Sysop of the CD-ROM Forum. Rich Bowers is
logged on but is sitting here with me so he isn't ignoring you. We are
very happy to welcome Paul McAfee and his cohorts with Kodak. This is
a moderated conference so here are the basic ground rules. First:
Please try not to talk out of turn, it will make the reading much easier for
all of us. Second: The best time (and only, I hope)
to ask a question is when you have been recognized by me. You can
get into queue by sending me a single ?. You can do that in an ASCII
terminal program by typing /SEN 9 ?. If you are using CIM, use the
TALK feature under Conference. When it is your turn to ask, I'll tell you
to go ahead. You can begin typing your question at that point. Please
indicate that there is more to come by ending a line with... as I have
been doing. When you are finished, indicate so by saying Then Paul et
al will be able to respond.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Now that we have that out of the
way, I'll let you send your requests to me and get on with the show.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Paul McAfee, how about giving us
a brief introduction of yourself. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) I am public relations manager for
Photo CD. Scott Brownstein will be at my side in a moment. GA

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Re: Kodak Access
Software: Exporting in TIFF format fails if the image has been cropped.
Is this a characteristic of TIFF? GA

9:09:36 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) I'll let Paul Wisotzke take this.
GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Its not a known problem. I have
heard of it happening with some CD ROM drives that are not fully Photo
CD compatible.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Tom, Let's let this rest for now.
Paul or
Scott can get to it in a few moments. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Steve ... who is next? GA

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) OK, this only happens with
TIFF on cropped images. Never with BMP or uncropped TIFF (Windows
version of Access) will wait. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Tom, let's wait on that until Scott
can get to a terminal.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Thanks. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Stephen Ziegler is next. GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) We run specific compatability
tests and post a list of results. It's available by calling our info center. GA

[76507,3400] (2-56,Stephen Ziegler) Need to know about transfer rates
in mulisession CD. ga

[70310,254] (2-60,Bob Frankston) Re Drives: I've called the info center
about drives. They did read out a string of models and subnumbers. I'd
like a printed list of currently shipping models and, since they are not
really in the channel yet, where I can actually buy such a drive. Can you
please keep a table posted on this forum. (If it is there, I'll download it --
haven't checked in a few weeks).

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Specifications for CD ROM
Drives are available from the manufacturers. Scott just arrived. Current
drives can support either 150 or 300 Kbytes per second. GA

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) We test only for Photo CD
compatability.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Tom Lichtenberger. GA

[75300,2312] (2-58,Tom Lichtenberger) Hi Paul, glad to meet you<g>.
I'd like to know what CD Roms are recognized/blessed by Kodak as
being Multi-session compatible? I understand the list is very very short
right now, can you list the CD ROM's that are? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Steve ... who is next? GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Tom, can you ask your question
again? GA

[75300,2312] (2-58,Tom Lichtenberger) sure... I'd like to know, what
cd-roms have been blessed by Kodak as being officially tested as Multi-
session compatible? I understand the list is very very short, can you list
them? GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) The current drive list is available
by mail and will be posted in library 7 of this forum. ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Tom, Joel Wisotzke will post the
list in CD-
ROM Forum You also can call KIC at 800-242-2424, ext. 53. The list
changes virtually daily (grows). GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Todd Copilevitz. GA

[76260,465] (2-37,Todd Copilevitz) Thanks. I want to use the photo cd
with photoshop for desktop publishing. What kind of resolution can I get
from the CD, and will the plug-in module for photoshop handle pulling
files off the CD? The other question is regarding color balancing. How
much will I have to do for a color printer such as the CLC 500? Ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Todd - awaiting your question.
GA

[76260,465] (2-37,Todd Copilevitz) Thanks. I want to use the photo cd
with photoshop for desktop publishing. What kind of resolution can I get
from the CD, and will the plug-in module for photoshop handle pulling
files off the CD? Also what kind of color balance will i need to do?

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) We will be releasing a Photo
Shop plug-in in a few weeks. The plug-in will access images directly into
PhotoShop. ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From 128 x 192 to 2048 x 3072,
all 24 bit color. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Thank you all for your patience...

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Eric Michelson. GA

[76350,553] (2-27,Eric S. Michelson) What size images are scanned
currently into CD's, what are my options ...

[76176,1122] (2-25,John/Charlene Melso) ???(grin)

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Steve, I don't see anything from
Eric. GA

[75300,1642] (2-23,Ron Kovacs - ZNet) To exit enter / before your
command.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Paul, Eric is job 27. Do you see
anybody with that job number?

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Steve, I don't see Job 27 either.
GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Eric's question was...

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Joel, jump in, but answer only the
questions from the people identified by Steve (Moderator). GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) What size images are scanned
currently into CD's, what are my options? ga

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Eric, Are you asking what
film formats can be scanned to CD today. If soit's 35mm only at this
time.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Each image is available at all five
resolutions, from 128 x 192 to 2048 x 3072, all 24 bit color . GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bob Cox. GA

[70062,3271] (2-8,Bob Cox) Will Kodak release to Desk Top
Developers the format info, of the file PLAYLIST.PCD on the protofolio
CD? We want to develop a play program for PC's in windows.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... The format is
available from Philips. You need to ask Philips for the Photo CD
specification. That information is in the Photo CD spec. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Dan CCC. GA

[76701,13] (2-39,Dan CCC) thanks steve... we need to know what
"average" file sizes are so that we can archive stock images and then
combine or manipulate them in Photoshop. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) The 2048 x 3027 is 18 MB in 24
bit color.

[76701,13] (2-39,Dan CCC) What is the smallest?

[76701,13] (2-39,Dan CCC) GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) The smallest is 128 x 192 x 24 bit
= about 64 K GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Stephen Ziegler. GA

[76701,13] (2-39,Dan CCC) Thanks. GA

[76507,3400] (2-56,Stephen Ziegler) Go to next person thanks GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bruce Rubadeux is next. Please
do not send private messages to the Kodak folks as they have their
hands full trying to answer one at a time and remember to wait your turn.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bruce. gA

[70524,2427] (2-21,Bruce Rubadeux) What is the EK position, as of
today, for a SDK and LIC. availability for writing PCD. Also address
Philips CDD521 vs. EK equpt. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... one moment please
... We currently do not have a license or SDK for writing PCD. The
PHilips CDD521 and Kodak PCD 200 writers are made on the same
assembly line. However, there are differences in warranty and service
and software (drivers) are totally different. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) R. Lavoie. GA

[72571,3571] (2-36,R.Lavoie) Hi. Regular CD audio uses RedBook
specs, and CD-R audio uses OrangeBook specs. What does the Photo
CD use ? Secondly are there any hardware manufacts that are going to
commit themselves to making a photo cd / cd /laserdisc player ? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... Not true.
Premastered CD audio follows Redbook specs. CD R Audio also follows
Redbook specs once recorded. Photo CD uses redbook audio. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Sony is making a CD I portable
player that plays Photo CD. Others are evaluating the possiblity of
Photo CD & CD Laser. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Scott Torrol. GA

[72571,3571] (2-36,R.Lavoie) thanks GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Scott? GA

[76460,2716] (2-48,Scott Torroll) Thanks Steve... My question is on the
availability of the access software Where and when GA

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Access should be available thru
many softwar
e dealers As well as directly from Kodak. Call KIC for resellers in your
area. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Access is available now from
Kodak for $39.95, and from stores. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Richard More. GA

[76460,2716] (2-48,Scott Torroll) Thanks ... Ga

[71221,3636] (2-7,Richard More) Will I notice a difference between ASA
100 film and ASA 1000 film? Second can I use both slides and
negatives? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... Yes, you will see a
difference. Yes you can use both slides and negs, color and b&w. GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) You can use ay 35mm film.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Ron Kovacs. GA

[75300,1642] (2-23,Ron Kovacs - ZNet) What is Kodak's impression of
the Atari Falcon 030?

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... one moment
...Scott hasn't seen it, but if it is Photo CD capable it must be good. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Steve Ranck. GA

[75300,3436] (2-26,Steve Ranck) Thanks... I work for a CD-ROM
driver developer and we're having trouble getting one of our SCSI drivers
working with a photo CD compatible CD-ROM drive. What do you
suggest we do? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Paul W. or Joel W. ... chip in
here.

9:47:54 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) KIC can help you work out
compatibility issues. Call 800-242-2424 extension 53. GA

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) We were waiting for the
question from
Steve Ranck.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee)

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Ok, we'll move on to Bob
Ledbetter. GA

[71043,3442] (2-33,Bob Ledbetter) Hi, I uknderstand Kodak has been
working with Atari and the new Falcon030. Can you brief us as to what,
specifically is being done in the advertising area. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) I am not aware of any co-
advertising with Atari at this time. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Scott Frederick. GA

[71175,1220] (2-30,Scott Frederick) What resolution (dpi), not size of
file are images scanned at before they are burned onto the cd?.
Secondly what is the rate of the cd read/write? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Scott .. 2048 dots per inch. Also
... CD Recording rate is 300 K bytes per second. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Paul and Scott have agreed to
stay past 10p EST. So, if you'll hang in with us, we'll try to get your
question. Horatio Kemeny. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Horatio? GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bob Frankston. GA

[70310,254] (2-60,Bob Frankston) [The problem with moderated
forums is that I've got plenty of time to compose my comments but they
are in one paragraph because I don't know if the software supports a soft
Enter vs Transmit] The development kit seems to be priced for
professional development with full support. I'm interested in
experimenting with Photo!CD (though such experiements do have a way
of finding themselves in products eventaully). Is there a less support-
intensive version that just has the .H file and a description of the entry
points? I just want to be able to, for example, read the thumbnails on to
hard disk. Ideally, the .H file posted on CIS with a little description (in
the .H file itself) would be wonderful. It would also help Kodak by making
Photo!CD much much more accessible. .. Other issue is phone
support versus online documents. If the list of drives changes
frequently, all the more reason for posting
it as opposed to my placing a daily call to the 800#. The issue is still
actually getting the drives. Maybe the Texel mentioned is available.
What else is buyable. -- in the back of both of these is the issue of
personal computing vs Photo!Cd since it doesn't seem that Kodak has
connected the two? If Kodak is the main agent behind Photo!CD, it
should work to make the information available. If the DLL's come with
the viewer, then doc on how to read images using the library should be
more than sufficient without forcing the nice people who want to use your
product to go tothe Netherlands for bit layouts. Perhaps a compromise
would be having the standard access software come with some DDE
support and support for Visual Basic and other products as a way of
distinguishing it from the "professional" developer edition.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) The least expensive kit is $695,
but you can read Photo CD images with Photo CD Access for $39.95, or
for free with Adobe's Photo CD access plugin.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Art Hansen. GA

[70310,254] (2-60,Bob Frankston) I want to be able to read the Photo
CD under program control. I already have correl draw but that is labor-
intensive.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) What does labor intensive mean?
GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) You can use Photo Kodak CD
Access or PhotoEdge.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Thanks, Bob. Art? GA

[70310,254] (2-60,Bob Frankston) Labor-intensive means "not
automated". For example, I'd like to collect all the thumbnails from a
PhotocCD, reduce them to a smaller palette and then save them on hard
disk. How would I do this wout programming?

[75216,3137] (2-66,Rod B - Aldus) Aldus Fetch will handle that for you.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Thanks, Rod. GA Art.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Thanks Rod B and Bob. Let's
move on.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Ok, no Art. Charlene. GA

[76176,1122] (2-14,Charlene Melson) Hi all! I am a photog and
associate editor at Micro Publishing News. We are currently publishing
the very first book on the subject of Photo CD. It's called Photo CD:
Quality Photographs at your Fingertips. Sound familiar Paul M? I believe
you graciously supplied us with many photos. I also have photos in the
book. I have experienced Photo CD as a photog and a DTPer and I love

Renaissance ...

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Oops ... also PhotoStyler. GA

copy of the book, due out in January, call (310) 371-5787

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) John Melson. GA

[76176,1122] (2-57,John Melson) HI WHERE CAN WE GET PHOTO
CD PLAYERS AND COST.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) John, Kodak has this at the KIC.
Call 800-242-2424, ext. 36, for player and photofinisher information. GA

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Call 800-945-7200 for the latest
on player dealer locations. GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Scott Brownstein is eating the
unpopped kernels of our popcorn. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Will the PCD image be released
so that we can read, modify, then re-write PCD?

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... That has not been
decided at this time. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Thanks, Jan.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bob Michie. GA

[72447,2660] (2-64,Bob Michie) Thanks Steve. I'm still wondering what
the users see when accessing Phot CD. Is the disc accessable at DOS
level? IOW, if I do a DIR, do I see Dos Files?

10:09:02 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) YES THANKS

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott > (1) Is the disc
accessable at DOS level?
Yes if the drive and drivers read ISO 9660.

[72447,2660] (2-64,Bob Michie) (2) Are the discs encoded IAW ISO
9660?

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Yes you will see the files. ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Yes to both.. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Stuart Sandow. GA

[70062,3271] (2-8,Bob Cox) Joel: Thanks for the mention of Photo
Factory, The Multimedia Store.

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Can the image be compressed
with MPEG or other
 systems?

[72447,2660] (2-64,Bob Michie) (3) Can Photo CD's be replicated en
mass by someone like NIMBUS?

[72137,2770] (2-15,Ayal Joshua) Phillips claim that their CD writer will
burn
PCD. Is that true now and

[72447,2660] (2-64,Bob Michie) Thanks! Ga.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Please wait to be recognized.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Bob McKeever? ga

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) William Meers. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Susan Kirshbaum. GA

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) What is the best "formt" for
distributing pcd to a wide range of monitors/sytems... ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... you can have a
disc mastered & mass produced. GA

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) Talking about "online"
distribution as in a multimedia presentation or a cbt application... ga

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Are you asking about on a
network... PC's an
d Mac's...

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) yes and stand alone... ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Susan, you can covert Photo CD
images to any format of your choice. GA

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) There is no best image i.i.e. size
of "window"?... ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Once coverted from Photo CD,
you can treat it like any other rasterized image. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Jan Schwenk. ga

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Thanks, can the image be
further compressed,
 mPEG etc?

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) thanks... ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Jan, you can compress it like any
TIFF, PICT, JPEG, or other image. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Paul, you mean you can
compress MPEG with a compression scheme?

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) It won't be MPEG unless you
convert the image to MPEG. After that, it is up to you. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Whoops, sorry, I meant can it be
compressed and still be .PCD? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Jan, No. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Scott Frederick. ga

[71175,1220] (2-30,Scott Frederick) Thanks Steve. We have scanned
slides on our Scitex smart scanner and compared them to images output
from Kodak CD and the scitex scans looked real good (on an Iris proof)
and the Kodak images looked very posterized on the iris proof, Any
explanation? GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... the problem
probably is the conversion of the Photo CD video RGB images to CMYK.
Ideally, it is best to go straight from PhotoYCC (our color metric) directly
to CMYK. GA

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Photo CD Access is optimized
for video display, but the Kodak plug-in will handle KCMY better.

[71175,1220] (2-30,Scott Frederick) thank you, because this really
stupmed us.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Tom Price. GA

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) With Kodak Access for
Windows, exporting a cropped image in TIFF format will fail. Doesn't
happen with BMP or uncropped TIFF. Is this a limitation of TIFF or a
bug in Access? ga.

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Tom, we think this is a hardware
or driver conflict or configuration problem. Please work with KIC to sort it
out. GA

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Thanks, will do. It's with the
Mitsumi 5S, which has been qualified by KIC. GA

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) The Mitsumi 5S is not on our
compatable drive list. GA

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Joel, that's not what KIC
told me on the phone or said in this very forum.ga

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Tom, contact me directly. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Susan Kirshbaum. Did you have
another non-advertising question? ga

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) Is there a listing of compatible
software like auhtoring tools? without converting?... ga

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Susan, could you rephrase your
question?...

[73720,3440] (2-37,Susan Kirshbaum) What packages directly support
PCD or wher
e can I get a list?... ga

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Jan Schwenk. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) What type film is optimum for
producing PCD? Ektar 25 or others?

10:23:41 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) From Scott ... What type do you
like to use? Your options are the same as for conventional photography.
If you want fine grain, and have the light, shoot Ektar 25. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Reason for the question, white
spots on recent development processes and Ektar 25 seems to turn out
a bit darker than paper image

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Jan, Please work this out with
KIC. They will need to analyze your problem in more detail than we can
get into online. GA

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Paul - ok, thanks ga (congrats
to all for this!

[73710,1515] (2-3,Richard Prall) How many photo can fit on one CD?

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Ayal Joahua. GA

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Jan, You can contact me
directly

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Sorry, Ayal Joshua. ga

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) ok Paul, will do thanks and
congrats on a fantastic product!!

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Kathy Bradley. ga

[73207,1132] (2-76,Kathy Bradley) Have you heard of Corel Corp's
plans for supporting PCD?

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) They are supporting PCD in
theirMosaaic utility GA

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) General information ... The Philips
CD recorder will not author Photo CD without authoring software from
Kodak. Now to Kathy ... Thanks Joel. GA

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) David Strain. ga

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Thanks for attending. What we'll
do now is open the floor to all for the next fifteen minutes and the Kodak
folks will answer the questions as quickly as they can. Any questions
that you have left can be sent to any or all of us and them via
CompuServe mail or here in the CD-ROM forum.

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Paul McAfee, the floor is to you
and then open for public questions. ga

[70007,6241] (2-6,KODAK - McAfee) Anyone wanting an official Photo
CD pocket protector should leave me EMail with their mailing address.
Thanks all.

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Steve, this is cool! Now I know
what they mean by "herding chickens"

[71175,1220] (2-30,Scott Frederick) How is the data written to the CDs
(what language or format)? GA

[75156,2106] (2-23,HOWARD BRAINEN) S-9 DOES Kodak have MAC
software for the Phillips unit yet?

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Photo.YCC which is Kodak's
Photo CD file format

[71754,16] (2-32,Jim P. Kirby) can I use my current CD that is connect
via SCSI to my PS/2 to view Kodak CDs?

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Not currently. Scheduled for Feb.
93

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) When will your "Kodak Authoring
Software" be available and how much?

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Jim Contact KIC for a
compatibility list.

[71242,1503] (2-39,William W. Powell) Any 3rd party xBase libraries for
display of PCD images?

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Jan, Mid 93, no price yet.

[71224,1714] (2-20,Jay Wright) do do you plan more than 24 colors?

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Jeol, will send you some
CIS email regarding compatibility of the Mitsumi CRMC-LU005S. ga

[70007,4640] (2-13,Atari Interface/Ron) Paul McAfee> how much of a
success has photo cd been with the general public?

10:32:47 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Joel, will it be available to
"developers"?

[71036,213] (2-24,Bob Dolson) Jay Wright, that's 24 MILLION colors,
not 24.

[72571,3571] (2-36,R.Lavoie) I understand that bringing slides for
scanning to PCD results in high res storage. Can I have more pictures
stored in lower res (eg TV)?

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) All images are stored as an
Image Pac with all five resolutions. GA

[71754,16] (2-32,Jim P. Kirby) Never saw the answer to the question
of how many pics on one CD??

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Tom, the CRMC-LU005S is fully
PCD copatable and branded with Photo CD logo. Is this the drive you
refered to as the 5S ?

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Any plans announced to support
ATARI, TANDY, or other formats? Access software to be available for
them?

[70062,3271] (2-8,Bob Cox) Jim: I have put 135 pictures on ond Photo
CD.

[70602,424] (2-22,Shane Harvey) Is there a list of processing sites
available who do Photo CD?

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Jim Up to 100 images on a
Photo CD Master disc.

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Joel, yes indeed! Should
have used the full name, I guess..sorry for the confusion...Still wondering
about TIFF format though. ga

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Call 1-800-242-2424 ext. 36 for
Photo CD sites. ga

[76227,314] (2-16,WILLIAM MEERS) How is Kodak targeting the sales
of franchises for PCD processing?

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Paul W. - a note in the Photo
forum, one guy said he got 17-!

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Jan No information on that at
this time.

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Paul W. - that is 170, sorry

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Tom, contact me at 71333,727

[71242,1503] (2-39,William W. Powell) Anyone know if I can access
Photo CD from Clipper 5.01?

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Paul W. - it was a guy from a
photo lab in Ct. Best or something like that?

[75300,620] (2-42,Tom Price[GRAPHICS]) Joel, and I'm totally
enthused and committed to PhotoCD as a technology. It's going to be
very big, in my opinion. I'm getting fantastic results with slides and color
negatives. ga

[71175,1220] (2-30,Scott Frederick) Thank all of you for answering my
questions

10:37:26 PM EST Tuesday, December 15, 1992

[75300,3257] (2-62,KIC PGS KODAK) Visitor, check their packaging for
our Photo CD logo, if not try using our Photo CD Access or contact them
for their future plans for support. ga

[73207,1132] (2-76,Kathy Bradley) I.E. Vis a vis Corel

[70602,424] (2-22,Shane Harvey) The docs on my Sony CD-ROM say
it is Photo-CD compatable, but what additional outlay in software, etc. is
needed for display on VGA?

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Thanks for answers - will this
conference transcript be available somewhere?

[70007,6237] (2-17,Paul Wisotzke Kodak) Jan It is possible to get more
than 100

[76701,232] (2-9,Steve (Moderator)) Jan, the transcript will be
available in Lib 1 of this forum later this week. ga

[70053,1702] (2-47,JAN SCHWENK) Thanks Steve, bibi

[71333,727] (2-10,Joel White Kodak) Visitor, you will need sotware
capable of reading the image format, i.e. Photo CD Acess or PhotoEdge

[71055,3667] (2-34,Kathy M) how about an up-to-date pcd list?
Anyone?

[70310,254] (2-60,Bob Frankston) I presume the forum is now open?
Any response about the idea of keep updated info on CIS instead of by
voice phone? After all, Kodak should appreciate t
he value of an image over audio. I did look at the PhotoCD drive list
uploaded today but was disappointed by the lack of multisession drives
though, perhaps, the Apple drive will work on the PC. Is Kodak
considering maintaining its own forum on CIS?

[71242,1503] (2-39,William W. Powell) Is there a list of 'authorized
developers' in one of the Libs?

[71224,1714] (2-20,Jay Wright) what is the price range for a piw?

[71055,3667] (2-34,Kathy M) OK thanks all... bye i'm off to the lib..

have tested.

[72571,3571] (2-36,R.Lavoie) Joel, I see a lot of potential for lower res
modes using the present players but with more pictures per disc. Was
KODAK looking at the possibilies ? GA

[71055,3667] (2-34,Kathy M) Joel the NEC CDR73 works with PC-XT
