Giardini Pubblici

These gardens at the eastern end of Venice are the setting for the Biennale, and are also one of the more pleasant green spaces in the city. Scattered amid the lawns are 27 pavilions, where host countries mount the artworks of their competitors on even-numbered years. These gardens were laid out by Napoleon, when he conquered Venice in the late 18th century.
